Hi Gang

Ok here it is...

I have an engineering work conference that is at the Gaylord Palms from June 1st to the 6th. Apparently this is a nice hotel about 4 miles southeast of Epcot. I'll be taking my family with me so there will be 4 of us; DW, DS8, DD4 and myself.

The discounted hotel cost at the Gaylord is $165 per night. However we're now spoiled and I'm planning on staying on-site instead of staying at the Gaylord. I know we can get the Swan/Dolphin for approximately $200 per night and we're thinking of doing that and eating the difference between $165 which is what my work would cover for the Gaylord. We also have enough SPG points to have an extra 5 nights free at the Swan/Dolphin as well. So that would mean we could stay a total of 11 nights at the Swan/Dolphin. So cool!!!! :goodvibes

This sounds really good to me however I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. Should we stay somewhere else while I'm attending the conference. Please let me know what your advice is. What would you do?

Thanks
Andy

It's very easy to get to the Gaylord from that area ( Epcot S/D). So if it's the right price and the rest of the family will be that much closer to the parks while your at the conference then it sounds like it's worth the extrs.

This way only you are traveling and the rest can come and go using Disney Transportation.

We use the Grocery Store down the street from the Gaylord so I travel that a lot and it's not a busy set of highways at all never any traffic. I have also stayed down the street from the gaylord many times when playiong Paintball at WWoS and traveled it several times a day.

I think you have a good plan.

All I can add is that Gaylord properties are very nice, not Disney, but very nice. We stayed in the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville two years ago. If you're looking to be closer to the parks for your family's ease, then I'd say stay at the Swan/Dolphin.

We have done this at Disney, as well as other cities. The main considerations for us are :

does the conference have big breaks during the day that you want to be able to have a room to get to;
does the conference start really early and you want to be able to roll out of bed and walk down;
is it drivable without major congestion, so that you don't risk being late.

If we can work with those 3, then we stay away from conference, if it suits us better---in your situation, I would stay at Swan/Dolphin, use points for extra might stay and enjoy!!
