The doctor said not to worry so I'm not, but she feels so terrible. The worst is her poor little mouth. I noticed a couple of red bumps on her tongue Saturday night and a few more Sunday and she started to keep her mouth open and wouldn't swallow. I thought she was teething again but when I went to look I noticed about 15 little sores on the inside of her bottom lip. By the time I got her to the doctors yesterday her whole bottom lip was just one big sore and she was starting to get them on the inside of her cheeks. I cannot imagine her pain. The doctor gave me some meds to put on the sores but it only helps for a few minutes and I am giving her Motrin to help too. Does anyone have any experience with this and what else I might be able to do to make her more comfortable. She can't even really eat anything. All she has had is lots of popsicles and jello. My poor girl. :sad2:

My oldest dd had it a few years ago. She actually got sick on our way back from disney and we took her to the er one we got bak. She was vomiting the whole trip back and also had the virus. The er mixed up some weird stuff.. I know it was benadryl and something else.. and I had to use a q-tip to get them on the sores.

I hope your dd gets better soon.

My doctor gave me a prescription that the pharmacist had to mix up, it was a mixture of benadryl, mylanta, nystatin and lidocaine. My son had to swish with it 4-6 times per day and it REALLY helped him. I don't know if your daughter is old enough to swish but you might want to mention it to the Doc. :)

My DD has herpengina (sp?) which is similar to coxscakie when she was about 20 months. It came on suddenly and she was really uncomfortable with the mouth sores and fever. Tylenol and Motrin really helped. I also made her yogurt pops using an ice pop mold. She really liked them and it put something good in her belly. We basically let her have whatever she wanted just to keep fluids in her. I also pulled out her teething rings that go in the frig and that helped as well. After 2 days she was much better.

Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

Yes, that's what the doctor gave her. When he handed me the script I had to look at it twice because it was such a crazy combination. He told me to swab some on whenever she seemed to need it. It just doesn't seem to help her for very long. I'll keep using it and hopefully it will show some signs of healing. Thanks!

I hope your daughter gets welll soom.

there is a thread on another board that I belong to the suggests having them eat watermelon because it is easy to swallow..

Good luck and I hope she's feeling better soon.

Thank you for the link, it had lots of great information. I guess I need to go and stock up on some Lysol and hope the rest of us don't come down with it.

My DD had herpangina last spring. She was 18, and it was horrible. The thing that helped her mouth the most was .1% triamcinolone acetonide. She put it on the ulcers before she went to sleep, because it's a little like having glue in your mouth, but it made a HUGE difference. (You do have to have a prescription for it.)

Awww, poor baby. Coxsackie virus is commonly called Hand,Foot, and Mouth disease. It's not the same as Hoof & Mouth, which cattle get. HFM disease is highly contagious and causes little blisters in the mouth, hands, feet and buttocks, and sometimes a fever. It lasts about a week.About all you can do for her is keep her hydrated and give her something for pain. Motrin would be the drug of choice, but tylenol will also help. :wizard:

Our family has dealt with this before too - "this too shall pass" - so sorry though...............

I am sorry she has this. My son had this when he was 10 and it was very painful for him. Just make sure you have something for the pain. From what I remember it took a while for him to start feeling better.

My DD had it a few years ago. Send pixie dust your way so she'll get better quick. It's miserable for them. :wizard:

Did the Doctor mention a rinse of any kind for her mouth? I seem to remember we used something[my youngest DD is 14, so it's been awhile].
