You wimps down south

I will admit that on my TV, I have a weather channel feature and I list several cities temps. on there.

San Francisco seems the place to live. :lmao:

It is looking like the heat is going to break next Monday here. So one more week of this crap. I am sick of watering and the fungus that are affecting my plants.

The thing that makes minnesota such a bad place during a heat event is the lack of air condidtioning in a lot of houses. Out in the burbs, most houses have some kind of coolong mechanism, but in the main part of town, around 80% of the older houses don't have central AC...and in a lot of cases, not even a window unit.

Thus the Suckitude gets really heavy really quickly.

LOL - never heard that phrase before.

Hot is hot is hot. Now we're picking on why certain states get heat warnings and not others?

HWD - Heat Warning Discrimination...lol

I swear I read that as "PANTS" and not "PLANTS"

Which made me laugh like a school girl. :lmao:

BAck to the complaint fest...One thing we all agree with in this thread...We all hate heat.

I guess that is partially true.

When I water the lawn I am watering my pants sometimes.:lmao:

"Wimps in the South"?? You have GOT to be kidding me..........the ONLY other "Minnesotans" I know whine like BABIES every time they are near the south and ANY heat! We are SO thankful we live in the south and we RELISH the heat.
It'll be winter soon enough-now THAT we don't enjoy!

The heat here today was almost unbearable, we live in an apt and it took hours for our wall unit (wish we had central) ac to even help :sad2: It makes me sad to think that there are people with out ac especially the elderly. Looks like the heat is unbearable all over the country right now. As a Minnesotan who despises winter I look forward to the summer months, then when they're here I hope for fall. :rotfl:

My poor mom lives in a tiny house near St. Cloud that has no air. She has a box fan but the house is literally 400 sq feet...so not room for much else as far as fans go. She is miserable!

My BFF came up from New Ulm this weekend to stay with me b/c she is pregnant and has no air and would be miserable!

I love this heat. I was out gardening in it yesterday! The humidity...while it stinks when you are just trying to run from point A to point B and your hair gets all nasty and you start to sweat...being outside in it makes ME feel good. Even doing 20 minutes worth of work in it...makes my whole body tired enough to fool myself into thinking I did a ton of work :lmao:

I don't think southerners are wimps (until winter time!)...but I do see what GG was saying - why is there the heat index discrimination :rotfl:?

Now - everyone go outside and run through a sprinkler and have a good time!!

Our temps got up to 101 with heat indesx of 114 before they issued our first heat advisory this year...
Of course we've got the next 3 days at 98+ with heat index well into the 100's, and there is a warning in effect right now. Not fun for sure...

I'll tell you...after moving from Chicago and living there for 40+ years, I'll take this heat any day over snow. The only snow I want to see is on TV.

My Dad...Has Lived in Oklahoma his entire life. He hates cold and snow with a purple passion...Swear to Gawd, he thinks of cold weather and snow like this.

Like it's going to sneak up on him and eat him.

But you get BOTH :lmao::lmao::lmao: You have had WAY more snow then we have in the past few years :lmao:

I'm pretty sure we haven't had more snow than MN. We had a freak amount this winter but I've been here for about 10 years and we have never had near this amount of snow. In the 6 years I've been at my company we had one closure due to snow before this winter, this winter alone I belive we had 7.
The humidity here is what truly sucks and we've had warnings about air quality for what seems like every day. Since every place you go to here has the AC cranked it's really not that bad.

It's very true. Even here in NY where we do get very hot summers, many homes do NOT have central air. I for one live in a house that is one of the oldest in our village, there isn't even a record of when it was built, so it is well over 100+ years and I do not have central air. You go into some establishments and it is not air conditioned. On our street there are only a couple homes that do. It is really hot here. BUT I prefer heat over winter so there you go, lol. We also did not get a lot of snow last year. The weather all over the globe has been freaky. Floods in China just today I was reading, fires burning in Russia, etc. etc.

Do it with 80-90% humidity every day and then we'll talk. ;)
Sadly we get high humidity too. No one ever believes it, but it's true.:teacher:
But we LIKE the snow--we don't like this heat so much but it isn't unusual here either I guess.
Oh HELL no, we don't! Snow is wet and messy and COLD. No, no, no. I tolerate the snow but I sure as heck don't LIKE it. shudder shudder shudder.

.

You, know, my mom grew up in MN and moved to San Fransisco when she got married. She said she was colder in SF than she had ever ever been in MN. :confused3And she lived up on the Range and it gets darn cold up there in the winter.

It was 101 without the heat index 2 days last week here. Heat index was near 120 both dahys until after 6pm. With 90%+ humidity. I'll gladly trade!

I am so tired of being hot and sticky. And not in a good way!

Same here.

My dad's family is in Buffalo, NY and dislike the snow just that much, too. I don't think several feet of snow would be fun, but I'm certainly more of a cold weather guy. If most of my family didn't live in south GA, I'd move to the mountains in a heartbeat.

You are missing the point, we had 110 heat index today with no warnings, you have 110 heat index with warnings all over the place. I guess having 110 in MN just isn't a big enough deal to warrant a warning? :confused3

Maybe in the grand scheme of things, Minnesota is just not that important.

In Louisiana, it is true that we have weather like this for months. And we don't need a warning to tell us how hot it is! I don't know what 100 degrees feels like in Minnesota, because I have never been there. So I am not going to call anyone there a wimp. ;) But I have been to Las Vegas when the temperature was over 100 degrees. Don't get me wrong, 100 is hot no matter how you slice it. But you didn't walk outside and immediately melt from the humidity. It takes a little longer before you can't take the heat and have to go inside. Here it hits you like a wet blanket.

Now if you want to call us southerners wimps, you would have a case in the winter. When it snows (and I use the term lightly), they close the schools. I guess they think we need snow tires to drive in a few flakes of snow.
