I usually dye my hair with washout color. But, about twice a year, I put a permanent color in. My birthday is coming up, and I have a few grey hairs, and DH was gone this weekend, so I thought I'd do a permanent color. I like auburn, dark brown with a hint of red. I got what I thought was auburn, and colored my hair at 10:00 on Saturday night. I went to bed with my hair wet, and went to sleep. I awoke at 8:00 a.m. to get ready for church. I took a shower, but didnt wash my hair, just got it a little wet. Looked in the mirror, and, oh my gosh, I was a carrot top  ! My hair was orange, bright orange. I couldn't believe it, it was nothing like the label said it was. Needless to say, I didn't go to church. I donned a baseball hat and went to get more hair dye. I got dark brown, with no red in it at all. Now my hair is a very red/brown. More red than normal auburns, but still considered auburn. Dh hasn't seen it yet, I hope he likes it. Kimmi said it looks very good with my coloring, but I don't know, it's still pretty red. But, compared to what it looked like yesterday, I think I look great ;) ! I have never had a hair dye fiasco before, but this was one of them. I think I'll stick with wash out from now on!

LOL TC, yup, that's what it looked like. I don't have a digital camera, so I can't just take a pic today. You can see what it looks like after my trip, there'll be lots of pics then.

TC, when DH lost his job, I did my own...boy bad idea..I ended up redish too...not a good color at all for me. I am sure you look great!!

Picutre!!!

The same thing happened to me when I was in high school. My mom did it for me and it turned orange! I was so embarrassed. I stayed home from school and we redid it.

Won't it fade gradually anyway?

I bet it will be fine in a week or so. Just wash it a lot.

JJ, that's what I am hoping. In a week or two it should be toned down some. Otherwise, when you all see my trip pictures, you'll need sunglasses. ;)

Well that certainly sounds interesting! I think I am giving up on the hair color as mine is never the shade I want!!!!

Blonde would be terrible for my hair. It's so dark to start with, and so fragile, bleaching it would probably make it fall out, lol. Maybe I should just let the grey take over, with my head held high. I always said I wanted to grow old gracefully.

Oh brother!! Sorry that happend to you!!
I ended up staying late at work on Saturday Fixing a girls hair who used an over the counter color that was suppose to be golden brown and she was BLACK!!!!! I told her to write a letter tot the company and send them a copy of her reciept that she had to pay 100.00 to try to fix her hair!!!

TC have you heard of the wash out color called fanciful rinse? It comes in all colors. There must be a brown to tone down the red some more if you think you need to. After you shampoo you just comb the fanciful through your hair. It also conditions. I sometimes use a blonde beige color to "hide" the gray between colorings. It's available in most stores in the hair products aisle.:D

That was my hair color as a kid, but it has gotten darker over the years. Now the grey is beginning to creep in.

your fiasco with the permanent color can't be much worse than mine with the perm. bad idea! had to go back two times to get it right, but still not satisfied, and I am not a very picky person. told hubby, never again, just get used to seeing me in poker straight hair than hangs in my eyes. he laughed and said don't worry, it will grow out. easy for him to say, HE IS BALD!!!
