Just got back from a week long trip to WDW. They presently loading all but the back row of the boats on Pirates of the Caribbean. We were sitting in the front row and for the first time ever (over 10 years of riding it), we got our shoes and socks wet. The boats are now a little "front heavy" with the back row vacant and that causes a modest wave to crash gently over the bow after the little drop. We were completely surprised! It was probably only about 5 or 10 ounces of water, but it landed right on top of my shoes and socks!

The CM at the end of the ride confirmed that this is now a common occurrence.

So.....................if you want to stay dry, don't sit in the front row!

The disney 'imagineer/engineers' screwed up royally on this one IMO.

It has been a common complaint because of the new boats. The empty back seats are a non-factor, I think.

When we were there they were still filling the back row and we got wet.
I warned my wife as we were about to get in the front row that we may get wet. She must have thought I meant a little wet and didn't think we'd get our shoes soaked. :lmao: Guess she should have listened to me.

So it's a design problem with the boats.

I have never, ever made any requests before I got on a ride about any sort of preference of seat or row. Is it out of order to ask (tell) a cast member that you don't want to sit in the front row? I feel like it's wrong to ask but...I mean, of all the things to get wet, no one wants their shoes and socks soaked! I would rather get my head or shirt and arms wet than that - at least they will dry.

It's just I know how the cast members just like to direct you to open seating on this ride - and I hate to make their life difficult by asking not to sit somewhere. I just wonder what they would say? Do we just have to accept that it's luck of the draw and take the seating they give us?

Have any of you ever passed on the assigned seating on a ride a cast member gave you? What happened? I guess they could say, 'Take it or leave it!'

Just ask them when you get up front and they'll either put you in the row you want right away or have you wait for the next boat.

Many people actually request the front row -- or did before the new design flaw -- so by requesting to avoid that row, you'll be making life easier for the cast member.

Thanks, guys! I feel more comfortable asking now. Of course, right, the front row would be prime real estate under usual circumstances. I think I usually have sat in one of the back rows though. It doesn't impede the view at all.

We must have really lucked out in June. We rode front seat--DH, DS3 and myself. We are not small people. Boat was filled (a couple in each row)--unsure about the last seat. The boat in front of us had people in the last row when we bumped them.

Water did not come in to the boat, but I had read on here about the hard bumping, scrapes, bruises so I warned DH to sit away from edge and brace for impacts.

Hmmm. They have always put me in the back row as a solo rider because it was shorter.

I wonder if I'll now be sharing a row with someone. Hopefully not a family of 3 because 4 people in the same row are really, really tight on those boats when you are larger like I am.

Don't feel weird asking for a specific row. As long as you're polite, they couldn't care less and it doesn't make it more difficult for them. I ask for rows all the time and have not once picked up on even the slightest bit of annoyance from any cast member.
