When do you think would be a good time to list Winter coats and snowpants and boots, etc.? After Halloween???

What about holiday dresses?

You might actually want to start now, considering that the stores are all stocked with them... It sure got cold in New England this week!

I listed a pair of my son's too small snow boots this past week and they sold for what I paid for them a year ago!!!! I would think now would be a great time to start listing all your winter things.

Anyone else having problems since the new required update?

Lots and lots of folks complaining on the Discussion Boards on eBay. I've done everything that ebay has "suggested" - to no avail...

It's going to take me forever and a day if I have to list everything on-line via the Sell Page - not to mention I don't want my auctions starting in the middle of the day!

I don't think I'll ever understand why eBay continually "fixes" things that aren't broken.. :(

I have!! I loaded a ton into it..did the required update now NOTHING works...all of my descriptions that took hours to type are trapped in there!!!!!!!!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRR they better do something I am not typing all of that again!
UGH!

Can you open your Turbo Lister at all? If so, go ahead and open it and up at the top select tools - then new update. I did this earlier today and "so far" I'm okay - was able to list about 20 items earlier and I just uploaded them to ebay.. they're saying on the discussion boards that there's a "fix' in todays update that is working for some folks..

Good luck! I know how frustrating all of these problems can be.. Yesterday I was actually looking at "real life" jobs in the paper!!

Oh - the horror of it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When are all of you going to start listing "new" items for holiday shopping? You know - all those gifts that your mother-in-law, Grandma, Mom, whoever - gave you, your DH, and kids that left you wondering, "WHAT on earth was she THINKING ????" :)

I probably have enough to finance SEVERAL trips to Disney (sheesh - you would think that after 50+ years people would know what I like and don't like by now!!) but I'm not sure when to start putting them up..

Anyone know when most Christmas Club checks start rolling in?

Also - do you think it would be a good idea to offer Priority ONLY - or the option of it at least?

How about Buy-It-Now ?? I don't normally use that option much but I'm wondering if it would be worth it for the Christmas season..

This is my FIRST Christmas season selling so I would appreciate any and all advice from veterans and those who have "been there, done that"......

Thanks!!!!!!!!!! :)

Most people start getting their Christmas Club checks right around Columbus day.

I see a lot of complaints regarding the new invoices. I really don't care for them either. However, my bigger complaint, has been how long it is taking ebay to send email notices. My listing confirmation notices are taking 2-3 days to reach me. As well as outbid notices. The end of auction notices are taking anywhere from 12-24 hours. That is ridiculous. It wasn't always this way for me, just over the last few weeks.

I have to say I love this thread. I have learned alot from everyone here.

I do agree with kilee. Ebay has been slow with emails lately. I never rely on them just check My Ebay on a more regular basis.

I saw someone say something about auction timing. You can pick an approx start time for your auctions. I use this once in awhile, it is great when I have down time to list ,ultiple auctions and have them start on a particular day & time. It does cost .10 extra but it can be worth it. I would never have an auction end midday on a weekday.

I have to say Ebay can be a great part time job. I devote about 4 hours a week to actual auction maintnenance and about 6 hours packing and paperwork, it has paid for trips to WDW & DL. I just got my power seller logo and if I can do it anyone can.

Just looking thru some clothing auction on ebay and came across this in someone's description.

if you are paying via paypal please add a $1 handling charge (Paypal is now charging to use it)

I didn't think you were allowed to charge extra to pay your fees???

Well you can charge extra but you can not state it in your auction. Meaning you can add it to your S/H fees (if shipping is $3.85 you can charge $6) but you can not say "add $ if paying by paypal."

That's what I thought. Does ebay look for that kind of stuff?

My mom had some auctions pulled because of this (she didn't know that you couldn't).

I saw an auction recently that said to add 5% if you were paying by Paypal....I was surprised because I thought that was against eBay rules.... OT- wow, look at all of the new smilies!!pirate: Cool!

I have a few tips to offer y'all, use 'em if you can:

1. For a nice matte background for small objects that won't give off glare I use the Foam sheets they sell in the craft department, comes in lots of colors, I like the black best, next red and is cheeep, .99 for the 12" X 18". When you trim your photo leave a little showing around the edges, gives your photo an outline in the Gallery and helps set it off.

2. If you are going to be doing some major writing for descriptions, with the fits that Turbolister has had lately, do it in Word first and save it, then you can just copy and paste it in. This works too because you can use your spare lunch time at work to write descriptions and email them to yourself at home or save it on a disk. When you take the kiddos to the library you can work on it there while they enjoy storytime etc.

3. Kellogg Kash, I know we would all like to use more of that cereal now, but how??? We can only eat so many bowls, right! Well, sneak it in, I buy a carrot or spice cake mix and stir in 2-3 cups of raisin bran, bake it in muffin pans and away they go! I have always used oatmeal in meatloaf, the shredded wheat works too, just let it soak in the liquid first then add the meat etc. don't worry about the sugar, the tomato sauce is a little tart so it balances out. My gang didn't even notice it. The cornflakes can be used in cookies, there is the old Texas cookies that use cornflakes, or I used them instead of oatmeal in No-Bakes.

My Grandma used to use smashed up corn flakes in her meat loaf all the time.

Seems like this thread has been fairly quiet the past few days..

Has everyone been too busy making money to post? Sure hope so!

I'm still having starts and stops with the Turbo Lister but with perseverance I've managed to get quite a bit listed.. I'll be listing a lot more today and tomorrow as well..

Quick question for all of you that use "Buy-It-Now" on a frequent basis.. Are there any particular items (or class of items) where it seems to work the best?

Hoping we all see LOTS of "green" this weekend!!

Okay...what would you do? This auction ended on 9/18 with no response from the winning bidder. I started the NPB process on thursday, then got this email today:

Tracey,

I'm terribly sorry it's taken so long to get to you, my computer has
been in the shop. I also wanted to inform you that I meanwhile received
this same grill as a house warming gift, so i was hoping you could
pardon my bid. I'm really sorry to be asking this, I've never had to
retract a bid (let alone winning bid) but I'm hoping you'll understand. If
you insist on payment, I'll understand.

Thanks,

This bidder has 12 positive feedbacks and that's it.
I've never had this happen before.

My ebaying days have been really slow this week. I do have 2 pretty hot items listed. One being a renissance princess costume I bought 3 years ago. I only wore it once, and it has been packed up since then. It was originally something like $28.00 brand new at Party City. Well I have made that plus some and the auction doesn't end for another day. The other was some VHS Friends sitcom tapes I have. I have rebought them on DVD and decided to sell the VHS. The bidding is almost to the original prices. Other than that, my other 27 items aren't seeming to move real well this week. I guess it was about time, the last few weeks have been booming. My sister sells mostly the same type of stuff I do and she says it's been quiet for her too. So how have everyone else's sales been????

I only really use BIN when I have lots of pens. It seems to go over really well with them. Other than that, I sell 90% clothing items and they don't seem to ever go w/ BIN. So, unless it's only a penny, I don't use it on most of my auctions.

I would reply that you are sorry that she has choosen to back out of her winning bid contract but to recover your fees you have to report that this auction had a non-paying bidder. I would not leave feedback one way or the other.

Things slowed down for me about mid-Sept., but I managed to profit over $80 after all the fees and shipping. I burned myself on a few items by not charging enough for shipping. I probably lost $20 doing so. I really need to buy a scale, of any kind, and a digital camera. Hopefully with Christmas club checks and our Christmas bonuses being distributed in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to get both the scale and the camera so I can go to town listing.
I have lots of clothes that I want to list, but without a (digital) camera it's pointless. Isn't it? Someone I work with was planning to clean her closet this weekend. What she doesn't want she gives to me, to keep what I want and do whatever with what I don't; lots of designer clothes in good condition. Would you buy a lot of clothes, without a picture?
I spent this evening researching- I started at the beginning of this thread and got to page 40, while checking completed auctions for items I plan to list tomorrow, since I found the calendar that says ending Sunday is a good thing. DD even went through her videos and gave me a small stack to sell (she knows where the money earned is going ;)) I really need to empty her clothes drawers too!
I relisted a few things today that did not sell the first two times I listed them. I lowered the starting bid (all with BIN and NR) with hopes of attracting buyers.
