You Better Start Believing in Success Stories, You're in One! Nov. W.I.S.H Challenge

This weekend we are moving on to the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Man's Chest. In the beginning we see that just like in real life happy endings don't always stay that way.

Will has been arrested, on his wedding day, for helping Jack Sparrow. We watch Elizabeth breaking down in the rain in her beautiful wedding gown.

The future also looks grim for Jack. He is visited by Will's father, Bootstrap. Bootstrap delivers a message from Davy Jones. It looks like Jack's time is up and Jones is coming to collect on his debt.

So when life takes a turn and things look bad how do you deal with it? Do you wish you handled it better?

When things go bad my reaction to it can vary. About 4-5 years ago my husband and I were going through a really bad time. it wasn't looking good for us. I wasn't eating and when I was it was making me sick. I lost about 10 pounds in a few weeks. I didn't realize until after all the tests that it was just stress. I thought I had celiacs since my mom has it and I had all the same symptoms. Once my husband worked through our issues I was fine. I for see this is what will happen when ever something really big happens.

For small stuff I cry. If I am frustrated or mad I cry and then I eat and it is usually candy. Last year when our bank account was hacked and I had to deal with my daughter being scared that someone was going to come and hurt us, I was mad. I don't think I have ever been that mad. I was eating a bag of peanut butter M &M's everyday and not just the single pack, it the sharing pack.

++++++++++++++

This weekend was an ok weekend. I did get my daughters room cleaned. It took me like 15 hours to clean it. I never knew how much stuff you can fit in a closet or under the bed. Next room will be my sons. That will be either this weekend or over Thanksgiving week. His is not as bad and should not take me so long to clean. I wanted to get through my drawers and the pantry this weekend too but I was too tired and sore so I will do that over the long weekend. I didn't realize how sore you can get from cleaning a room. Yesterday was pretty bad. it hurt just to stand up. I am better today but still a little sore. I have my workout clothes with me and with me and will go workout after work. I am determined to get at least 3 workouts in this week.

I am up from last Monday and not happy about it. I have tracked all of my food and have been between about 1,000-1,300 calories a day. I was even drinking about 30 oz of water during the week. I didn't have pop during the week and only had 2 snack size candy bars last week and a regular size one on Sunday. I know I can do better but it really was not that bad. I had salads for dinner 3 nights. I am just kind of frustrated with it. I am going to get my workouts in and all my steps this week and hoping that it goes down for next week.

:welcome: @MinnieLovesTigger please do jump onboard!

This weekend marginally successful for me. I did not get my steps or workouts in :sad1: but I did paint for 4 hours yesterday finishing off many hours of painting planned around in different rooms ! Yea!

Took my DD back to school and we went to art museum for the Van Gogh traveling exhibit, loved it! Reminded me of our trip to Paris this summer :lovestruc

Here's to a successful week ahead!:yay:

As our story continues we learn that the only way for Will and Elizabeth to escape their fate at the gallows is to find Jack and bring his compass to Lord Beckett of the East India Trading Company. Elizabeth remains in jail while Will sails off the find Jack and convince him to give up his compass.

IMG_4945.JPG

Will finds him on a mysterious island that no one will go near. The island is inhabited by a tribe of cannibals. The cannibals believe Jack is their God in human form. Even though that might sound like a good thing it turns out to be very bad for Jack. If he doesn't find a way to escape, the tribe plans on releasing him from his human bond.

This island that Jack found looked like a good option for him. But he finds out later that it wasn't. This can be like food options on our journey. Some food that is labeled healthy can actually be junk food in disguise. How do you tell between the two? Do you research your options? Do you read food labels? I'm curious about those outside of the U.S are your labels different than ours?

Good Morning! I had a great run last night here in LV. I mostly stuck to my plan except the last 3 miles when I was just over running slow and decided I wanted to kick it up a notch. Now I have to pack up and head to the airport in a bit. DH gets to stay behind for a conference so I'm a little sad to be leaving him behind :( but I am anxious to get back to the kids. I will be back later to catch up and answer the questions for today.

I read labels. I never used to but after being a room captains and my kids school and my mom celiacs I have learned to read labels. We also buy much more fruit and veggies then we do processed foods. That is all my husband. He hates stuff from a box.

First the progress report for last week - 0%... let the world get the better of me and really didn't even try. And I'm paying for it... Friday I stayed home not feeling well, it turned in to one of those "nope can't do it today" kind of days. I'm feeling better, but still off kilter.

I read labels but for example my menu today so far
raspberries, banana, greek yoghurt
lower fat feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, roast chicken breast, strawberries

A lot of my food is simple and there isn't much to read. I don't buy many things labeled as healthy but I keep an eye on labels on the odd multi ingredient items I use as salad dressing or pizza sauce. However as most of the food I buy is mostly one item no big drama if the pizza sauce have little sugar

If I will be having a burger, I don't sweat over ingredients.

They use traffic light system on food labels but I don't follow it too much to be honest. here is example

Now catch-up for being MIA for a couple days.

Reward - a healthy body and new wardrobe.

How do I handle it when things go badly - evidently not very well. It's become even more evident to me that I'm a stress eater and when things get rough I go off the rails and do the opposite of what I should be doing to get thru.

How do I tell healthy food from not so healthy foods marketed as healthy - the key for me is it is whole and unaltered. I stay away from things that are re-engineered, synthetic, fake. The gluten-free craze is a perfect example: most baked goods that are gluten free are packed with other stuff (like sugar) that can be just as counter-productive... for truly gluten-free grab an apple or pear or piece of salmon.

As previously mentioned, Friday was a "can't do it" day, spent mostly in bed. Saturday I felt better and totally enjoyed the knitting convention. I took a class on different ways to cast on, join and cast off, as I only knew one style of each. And I took a class on continental knitting, also known as picking and I only do English, or throwing. I thought my brain would really struggle with this, but it was only clumsiness with my hands and getting them to do something different. The teacher talked quite a bit about muscle memory and how to re-learn, which was really helpful.

There was also a market place with some of the major players in the new wool movement, and some really cool yarn A lot of people I follow on Instagramscarf.docx.jpgm where there and it was just so soothing and to be part of it all.

OK, I've totally screwed up my post by plunking that picture down in the middle of it, but now I can't get it to move so it is what it is. MommaoffherRocker this is my current project - a long bulky scarf.

@Oneanne I had no idea that one could knit any other way than the one I learned, which of course is continental knitting, considering I live in continental Europe that makes sense. The English method looks so cumbersome to me, so I totally get you being scared by learning the other way. Are there advantages to one method over the other?

So far I am doing good today. It is a rough day because I do not have much work to do. It is our down time at work. It will pick up again by the end of December. Days like today I just want to run down to the store and get something to snack on. I haven't and I am avoiding it the best I can/ I wanted to go out and get Chipolte for lunch but I texted my husband and he talked me out of it by talking me into it for Thursday night for dinner. I had my toast for breakfast and now I am eating left over chicken noodle soup I made yesterday. I am pretty sure we will have a big chicken salad for dinner tonight too. We try to do that early in the week so we have everything cut up for the week. I am almost done with 20 oz of water too. Will also work out right after work too. I am a little worried about it though My back and thighs are still sore from Saturday. I am going to work through it the best I can. I am thinking it won't be that bad once I get moving. The worst is standing up after I have been sitting for awhile.

The biggest advantage appears to be when you are working something like ribbing, where you are switching between knits and purls: in the English/throwing method it is an extra movement the bring the yarn to the front or back, but with Continental there's less movement, you mostly just switch how you are picking. People also mentioned doing both picking and throwing when they are working with multiple colors, so the yarn doesn't get tangled up. I don't do color work yet, so I'm not sure how that works. My right shoulder is always sore, so I'm wanting to learn Continental to give that arm/shoulder a break from doing all the work.

Interesting!! You still do a lot of work with the right side on the continental method though as you use the right needle to pick up the garn. But I would assume that it is a different type of movement, so it might give you the rest that you want. I can totally see the advantage of using both methods with two colors that is genius!! But I am sure that this would slow me down so much if I had to use two methods simultaneously!

I really love the look of your scarf as well by the way!

Hi friends - I've got good news. MY BOSS RECONSIDERED. I'M GOING ON MY DISNEY TRIP AFTER ALL.:banana:

I'm horribly behind and need to catch up on all your amazing posts. I ran Vegas over the weekend and didn't have too great of an experience. Sounds like @mammaoffherrocker and I had similar race finishes.

I'll pop in when I get home from work.

First of all I am SO happy to hear your boss reconsidered and you do get to go on your Disney trip!!!!!!!!!!! Secondly, I'm sorry you didn't have a great RnR LV experience. What happened?

Catch up:
I have been weighing in every day but have still only lost the 1lb so I'll say 40% of goal for now.

I'm an emotional eater. Its something I'm aware of and working on. Sometimes its easy, sometimes it feels impossible. I have a feeling this is something I will always struggle with.

I read labels. Its the one thing that helps keep me on track some days! I've never really been in to buying "health" foods. Like if something says gluten free or fat free, I dont assume that means I can eat as much of it as I want. I know that a lot of my healthier foods are higher in calories sometimes and I accept that and eat them in moderation cause they are still good for me (avocados!!!).

I'm happy to hear everyone is not tricked by the claims that some of these food make! I had the show The Doctors on in the background the other day and the guest they had on caught my attention. He had worked for a major food company and his job was to come up with ways to make claims about food that were within the FDA guidelines but weren't neccessary true by everyday people's standards. Like low fat just means that it has less fat than the regular version. Even if it's by like 1/2 a gram. I try not to buy prepackaged food anyways but it was real eye opening to find out just how deceptive these companies are.

I have made it to Denver, only one flight left. I'm so ready to be home!

Your scarf is turning out beautifully!! Thanks so much for posting the picture. Both of my grandmothers knitted. My mom's mom would send us slippers when I was little and I always loved them. I also requested they make baby blankets for each one of my babies so they would have something to remember their great grandmothers by. I tried to learn once but I just didn't have the patience. Maybe once the kids are grown up a little more I will try again.

Woohoo!!!

Secondly, I'm sorry you didn't have a great RnR LV experience. What happened?

I was on track for the elusive 2:44:59 PR for the half through my 10K and there was a water station right at around mile 7 that also served gatorade. I think the mix was off because I felt really wonky after, so I opted to walk that mile, and then I kept feeling worse and sluggish. Another runner saw me and slowed down, made sure I was okay and we ended up walking together until mile 11 when i barfed... twice! (He held my ponytail for me :lovestruc ) I almost took a sag wagon cart to the finish but opted to walk it in and finished in 3:20. Not the finish I was hoping for, but I think the dry, warm weather mixed with the flashing lights and bad gatorade just... didn't want me to do well.

San Antonio is in 3 weeks and I'll probably skip that half and downgrade to the 5K so I can do the 10K and 5K remix and shoot for PRs on both. I need to let my body heal for Star Wars 10k/Half weekend and I don't want to damage my knees before Disney now that I'm going. Woot woot. :cheer2:
