We did Yosemite in July (sadly on and around July 4th, it was the only time we could go) and I would never ever do that again. The crowds were INSANE. I am talking, can't drive down the road because so many people were incorrectly parked on the road, crowded. If you want someone's butt in your face while you climb up to see a waterfall, go then.
Otherwise, avoid that day/week at all costs!
We stayed at the Ahwahnee and it was so gorgeous that we all want to go back in another season.
FWIW, we did love Northern California and Redwood NP in the summer. As well as Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Olympic, North Cascades, Glacier, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone. So we are accustomed to crowds. But this was on another level. Last summer we were at Mt. Rainier during a heat wave with no AC in the lodge, and while it was not fun, it was bearable.
Either way, we made lots of memories!
