Yosemite to North CA coast trip, help!

Thank you all, so much for the information. I am taking the advice to heart and cutting a lot out of our itinerary. We have decided to skip Lassen and head over to the coast after a night after Tahoe. I am thinking about getting a house for two nights on the coast instead of a different hotel every night. Would Eureka be the best area or a little further south?

The hotels in Eureka are mostly motels along Hwy 101, not much that I feel like is really awesome. If you are willing to camp you can stay at Patrick's Point State Park which is beautiful.
