Maybe I'm living in a hole and missed the message, but the Southwest flights I was looking at for this summer went from $74 each way to $129 each way! WOW!!! Hopefully they go down!

I know the feeling, the flights I was looking at for May went from 107 to 127. But I have hope they will go down. I was suppose to go 2/2-2/9 the flights went up to 179 ea way, I just check and they are down to 99 that is cheaper then the original price of 107 so I'm just going to keep an eye on it, if they can go down in the middle of what is suppose to be the busy season, then I hope they will go down for the busy season Ihope they will go down for the summer. The only thing I can see happening is it's to cold there now and people are canceling and maybe going in the summer which might drive the price up, praying that won't happen.

Granted, I realize it's spring break, but looking at flights from Dallas to Orlando for our trip in March, it would be $3000 for 7 people. Way out of our price range, so we're driving. Insane... that's $430/person RT.

If I had seen $74, I would have jumped on. How much lower could you expect it to go? That is already lower than most DINGS.

There fares seem higher than usual and I'm hoping that some good dings will come our way. At least the luggage is (still) free.

I have resolved that we will have to drive in March. I can't afford nearly $500 per person.

We are going back July 2- 11 for a baseball tournament. Fare right now is $122 each way. It hasn't budget at all since being released. I am tying to patiently wait.

I have to agree that it seems that SWA is not as big a bargain as it usually is for an airline - although I love SWA and the bags are free and the great thing is that you can always adjust the ticket price without penalties - and of course DING!! :goodvibes

I was looking for flights from Indy to San Diego for when my son deploys again in April and was shocked that pretty much the flights were $149 each way regardless of day, time, etc which is a little unusual for SW, so I am going to wait a bit to see if the come up with a sale. Needless to say I will pay whatever, won't miss the opportunity to see my Marine before he leaves again.

I think their cheap gas price lock in is getting ready to end. You also need to include the free bags. I hear that Delta is now $23.

I would have booked at $74 each way.

My airport hasn't gone below $97 in the past year and you REALLY have to get lucky to get that kind of price. Right now for the flights I'm watching to various airports near LAX I figure I'll be lucky to get $149 (most are $184 and up but there are a couple inconvenient times still at $149). I'd be THRILLED with $129 each way at the moment.

This is still cheaper than any other airline and I happen to love SWA and my little regional airport. I'm only waiting because I have to firm up my dates and try to convince DH to accept a not so perfect time (the perfect times are all over $250).

I've seen a couple DING fares to somewhat obscure locations, certainly no tourist type locations, as low at $89 but that's it. This is what prices are like these days. It's not just SWA; all the airlines are the same or higher plus they charge for bags. For me, it's still a bargain. Jet Blue is often close in price but I'd have to fly out of a huge airport much farther away with parking that's at least 4x the price (not an exageration).

Southwest seems to be only going up lately. Grab them as soon as they open up. Better prices when they first open up the dates for the next few months.

OP here. Yes, those that have suggested to jump on $74 were correct. I was waiting to finalize vacation time and payday........ But, I guess 'you snooze you lose' came into play here.... Just wanted to whine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a ding though.

I hope it goes down for you. I know the flight I booked just went up in price.
Have a great time on Vacation.

Less flights scheduled, meaning less empty seats then when the whole economy tanked = not as low of prices. Flying in the US is still cheap in all reality, but not the rock bottom prices we are used to seeing. If the economy starts slowly coming back, rates will probably go up more as they wont really add flights until they actually need to..
