OMG I was just checking travelocity yesterday, they have had my plane tickets at 1055 for months now and then today checked again and they were up to 1400 almost 1500!!!! yikes, I should have got them back when but now I am screwed...is this normal??? Should I wait and maybe they will go down?? I can get them now from Expedia for 1147...will they go down do you all think????? OUCH was not expecting this at all and just upgraded to POLY because it was within my budgeting but now I am rethinking this whole thing. I am so wishy washy please talk me down!! I thought hey sure we have the $$ lets go from POR AB to CR but heard bad things about it so then switched to POLY due to good reviews, then got non hop but go on here and got pursuaded to get hoppers, then thought oh we will go in Sept instead of Dec (now less time to save $$ but that is not a huge issue) and see about a million others get in on the free dining, it is going to be like summer vacation only HOTTER AND MORE HUMID in September!!!!! PULLING MY HAIR OUT RIGHT NOW  What am I thinking??? Am I freaking nuts or what??? I thought with 5 we would really save with the free dining and stay at a deluxe instead with the extra savings...I AM MAD at myself right now, could just spit fire. :sad2: aaahhhhh!!! urrghh@@@@@

Airfare rarely goes "back down". How far out are your tickets?

Where are you flying from and does SW fly out of the airport. You could still sign up for DING and hope one comes out for your city. SW has had some really good deals lately if you watch carefully.

Yes, from where are you traveling from?

Have you checked with airlines directly?

we are leaving Sept 28 thru Oct 3 if that is what you mean :sunny:
My family is leaving about the same time :goodvibes
Sept 30th or so until Oct 5th ..
They're tickets were coming out approx $250-$300 per person a while ago, not sure how much now, but they've decided to go Amtrak (no clue why) for $700 for the three of them instead. I would keep an eye out and look at Southwest as suggested, they're having some deals lately.

So is JetBlue. The OP's start date is a Weds, and flights from Boston to MCO are $69/each way for that date to give a sample (Weds. are always cheapest at JetBlue). I'm curious where the OP is flying out from - and if the 1400 is for several tickets or just one. More info and we can help. :)

We're leaving October 3 coming home the 10 and I got airfare out of Bradley in Hartford on Song for $158 rt pp. Please note that when I began watching the airfare, it was about $100 higher, but one day when I went on to check, that was the new price, so in this case, pricing dropped. As a back-up I was watching Song prices out of La Guardia in New York, and they were always at about $150. It's a pain for us to go to NY, but I was prepared to do it if the fare didn't drop from Hartford. We have done this on occaision to various other destinations, and even with a hotel room for the night it came out cheaper than flying from Hartford would have been. We've also travelled from Providence.

If you can get to Hartford or NY, I'd check Song. As someone else mentioned, Jet Blue is great out of NY too. I don't know if they've started flying out of Boston Yet, tho. FWIW, I rarely use travelocity, etc. I usually go right to the airline wesbsite and play around there with dates, airports, etc. and find I get a better fare that way.

Usually prices are less around Wednesday. My flights went up $100.00 a ticket but last week were back down so keep checking. My thoughts are September will be super busy year. We are going Sept. 23 thru Oct 2, the same week we always go. Last year with the hurriciane the attendance was down, except on the weekend when people with AP evacuated to WDW!!!

I don't think airfares will go down anytime soon especially since the big airlines have already stated that they're raising fares this summer.

ok well we are flying from DES MOINES Iowa which is notorious for HIGH flights, they do have Allegient but that flies to Sanford and we don't want to rent a car, just use ME and Dis transportation to save $$ and Allegient has very weird dates to fly too. They do howver have flights for 210 pp. So I found that through Travelocity if I signed up for a pkg to stay at the Roadway inn or HOJO and fly to MCO but not use the hotel part of the pkg could save lots of money...like 100 per person if I did it that way. For example...to fly from DSM TO MCO flight only pp was around 330...BUT when I looked at the pkg deals it was only 210 pp!!!! So I called travelocity and they said I do not have to use the hotel part of the pkg just pay for the pkg price. OK I thought, since I am saving about 500 bucks anyway!!! But now the prices rose however on Expedia I can get a pkg deal for 1147 so I might do that right now while the prices are low...my problem is we are in DSM and flights are super high. We could drive to KC or Omaha but then by the time we pay for gas and parking...about 2 hr each way...and then get in late from OR and drive home well that sounds kind of stressful!! LOL

I know I gave you a lot of information that isn't relevant to you--I thought someone said your were flying from New England.

But the experience that may be relevant, is that when we fly from NY in early am we need a hotel room because it is about 1:45 from the house. Even with that and the parking being higher in NYC, etc. we still find the extra drive and paying for a hotel room worth the savings over the more expensive flights from our home airport.

Something to think about.

We fly out of Kansas City (MCI). We are using SW this time. Have a DING for 99.00 each way. We also are 2 hours from the airport. We use the park and fly program that lets us stay a night at a very close hotel. The hotel then shuttles us for free to the airport--also get a nice breakfast. We can leave our car for up to 14 days for free. When we arrive back at the airport. We call the hotel. A shuttle is sent to pick us up. We found it to be the easiest way to get back and forth to the airport with convenient parking. The hotel price usually varies by the one chosen, but ends up being cheaper than paying long term parking, and it has the convenience of the shuttle.

I would still go with SW if at all possible. If a lower fare comes out, you can reduce your price and get a refund or at least a travel voucher to be used later. Sign up for Ding and their e-mail specials. There is a great chance that you can get a lower price.

Also, here are some discount airfare sites that I got from the travel section of our newspaper.

www.sidestep.com/air

www.bookingbuddy.com

www.kayak.com

Also remember that Travelocity and Expedia charge a fee to book and they don't include all airlines, including SW.

Do you have AAA?? If so you may save some money on your package by rebooking with them. Just a thought.

Hope this helps! Good luck and let us know how you made out.

I'm in the same predicament....except we aren't heading out to WDW until the first week of May 2006. The airfare from Reno, NV to Orlando is usually around $360-420, but right now on Expedia, they have airfare for $290 roundtrip. I am not sure it could even go any lower, but at the same time, it's scary to buy tickets so far in advance. I'm not really sure what to do...I don't know how they handle cancellations and refunds. I know my FIL got his money refunded by AA or Delta, but he has leukemia and was unable to fly due to no immune system. They cancelled his portion of the trip 2 days before he was supposed to fly and they gave my MIL and FIL back all the money for his ticket. But if we had a change or cancellation, it wouldn't for that type of reason, so I'm not sure if it's stupid or smart to buy the tickets now.

Our plane tickets started out around 385. (We are going in October). I waited and waited for them to come down in price, after 4 or 5 weeks, they did. I got them for 247 a ticket. Now they are back up to 350 a ticket. I think it is really just a waiting game. I think partially you just have to go with your gut and take a leap of faith that the price you commit to is going to be the best you can get. The tickets I purchased could still go down in price.( I hope they do for the sake of others buying the same flight). For me, having the tickets bought and paid for is worth not having the ulcer from stressing about whether or not they are going to go down in price. (which is what I usually do). I just didnt feel like being stressed for months about it this year.

Sometimes, if you check expedia or hotwire or whatever, and you find an airfare you like, if you go to the airlines website, the fare will be much less. Thats what happened to me.

Have you tried priceline and bid on your tickets? That might be an option, as well. You cant pick your flight times, but you could get a lot lower airfare.

In the meantime, you shouldnt keep kicking yourself for it. You didnt know they would go up that much. That isnt your fault. I hope it all works out for you.

I know how you feel I only wish I had got on that sooner...UHHH!!! Good luck with your trip!!! Hope FIL is doing better...

I know you said you don't want to rent a car... but I just wanted to throw in that we're renting a car tomorrow (insert 10 hour dance here) from Sanford to the Alamo desk at the Dolphin. Since we are doing a one-day rental, the estimated cost right now is under $40 for a midsize. We're renting another car on the day we have to go home, to get us back to Sanford. Same estimate.

If the difference in airfares is big enough, you may want to consider doing something similar.

Southwest has flights for those dates out of Omaha and Kansas City for $168 each way.
