YIKES.. my dh melted our house....

Living in California all those years we had STUCCO exteriors on our homes....
Now living in SW ILL we have combo brick and vinyl siding......

Dh... BBQ some steaks and corn on our gas grill tonight for dinner... we enjoyed our lovely dinner. Later I went out onto the patio, I noticed that the BBQ grill was close to the house.. and the vinyl siding was pulling away from the house.. it was all wavy.. about 6-7 pieces melted .... oh dear lord...
Dh comes running... he sees that he left the grill on HIGH....it was red hot..

He feels awful that he forgot to move the grill away from the house.....poor guy...

What do we do now???????

The house is 5 years old... the builder is building new homes 4 miles away... I was thinking of heading over tomorrow to ask him about the vinyl repair....

definately contact the builder, he will have a better chance of matching the siding for you, if he cannot, siding is not too hard to replace,, if you decide to d i y the repair, pm me and i'll walk you through step by step.,

I know someone who did that recently. The builder (actually workers I believe) in the adjacent subdivision gave them enough scrap siding to replace the melted pieces.

I tell ya... we are laughing about it all now... but an hour ago ....oh my... He will be glad to hear someone else has done the same thing.

It shall go down in the family history book... "the day dad melted our house"....

So many things to learn since we have moved back to the Midwest......
little did I think that vinyl siding repair would be on the list.

tell him we repair at least one house a year from that problem,, in fact we have redone our insurance agents house twice,, same grill same spot both times,, once her son did it, the second time was a year later and she started the grill and left it herself..lol

i have to admit lol when the agent called the second time and asked if we had any of the siding left in her shed,, ona side note, she recently had an electriccal fire in her ac unit, and is going to have to replace hte entire side of the house,, i thoughht about telling her to save the good portions of the siding for future needs,,,( she still has thegrill in the same spot,,lol,, its just a matter of time.

Froggy.. HOLY COW.... that is one unlucky insurance agent....

but I do believe I would have moved the grill after the first time.... certainly the second time... but it sure sounds like she is good for your business!!!!

she is a great customer,, one of those that says this is what i want,, make it look good and just do it however it works and you want to. she is in one of the oldest houses in town, and has redone ninety five percent of it . shes also a good freind of ours.
