So my son is getting married in may, they will be spending 5 nights in Disney then off to Port Everglades for a 7 night cruise. My problem is how to get him to the hotel he is staying at in Fort Lauderdale.
Alamo and National are the only car rental companies on Disney Property. they are staying at the Bay Lakes towers so they have to be able to get to the rental company. Checking their rates, just to drive from the Disney hotel to Fort Lauderdale Airport, where they would get the hotel shuttle for Embassey suites in fort lauderdale, it would be over 100.00. I would like a less expensive option, I think over 100.00 for renting a car for only a few hours is very expensive. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. By the way I tried to do a google search under shuttle services, Mears shows up, but they dont have a bus, he can get a towncar with a driver for over 400.00, Yikes!

They should be able to take the ME to the airport and get a car from any company there, yes?

Don't forget to look for discount codes for the car rentals. I always have good luck with Mousesavers.

I think there are some shuttle van services to FT Lau. and Miami, but I have no idea how reputable they are.

Honestly, $100 to transport two people halfway across a state is not really expensive at all.

Is your son under age 25? If so, then yes, a rental is going to cost more than it otherwise would, but think of the flexibility that it will give them over some kind of bus. They can leave whenever they like and stop wherever they like en route. (Besides that, taking a three-hour bus trip on your honeymoon is kind of a downer.)

As it happens, there is a bus service (probably more than one, but I'm aware of this one): Florida Sunshine Shuttle. If you want to be picked up at a Disney resort, the price is $50/pp to Ft. Lauderdale, where they will be dropped off at a Denny's at I-95 exit #21 in Hollywood, and they will need to take a cab from the Denny's to their hotel. That price is pre-tax, so in the long run, taking a bus is likely to cost more than a discounted car rental. That's going to be pretty much the going rate for a bus that distance; even Greyhound is going to cost $76 for two people, and AmTrak is $72.

Look around for car rental discounts.

Check which car rental places have desks at the Downtown Disney hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd. You can take a Disney bus to the Marketplace and then walk across the street. My uncle did this, but I can't remember for which company. Then your son can drive back to BLT to pick up the bags and his wife.

Edit: Dollar has a desk at the Buena Vista Place. Budget is at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton

my Dsis works for a rental car company in Orlando and they will pick people up at their hotels and take them to their closest office to get a car. She said that most companies will do that.

Thank you all for responding, so I guess the best thing to look into would be to have him book a car, and try to get a discount rate. I will try looking into that.

Check www.amtrak.com for the train. From Orlando or Kissimmee to Fort Lauderdale is $36 per person one way. There are two trains daily.

I checked amtrak, it will cost them 72.00 but then they still need to find a way to the station and then from the station to the hotel in ft Lauderdale. Better off just renting the car. thanks for the idea tho!
