Oh my dear lord in heaven... Dec 30 I had so much pain I cried myself silly. I am not a weenie.. (many of you know that I have endured lots of traumatic pain) I had some Vicoden.. and it took the edge off of the pain. NYE- I called the dentist in the am. I think he was skiing. He called me back an hour later telling me to go see an endodontist that he called (who was also on vacation) to see me immediately.
Less than an hour and half later I was in Dr. S's chair.. no one else in the office to help him set up, he looked comfortable in his blue jeans and t shirt. He said the tooth looked really hot.. and he did not know how I was able to take the pain.
He numbed me up super good.. and began the root canal.. but left the hole open so it could drain.. YIKES.. he then gave me another novacain injection to get me home. Well as the novacain wore off the horrid pain returned.. I also had 3 different meds to take for the infection, inflamation and pain.. these made me nauseated.. I threw up.. oh YUCK!!!!! I sat in my bathroom praying to God and every saint in heaven to please take away some of the pain... about a half hour later the pain subsided by at least 80%.. God and the pain meds... HURRAY!!! My dh and kids were so kind to me. I ate some potato soup then took the meds again.. better result.. This am I awoke with little pain. HURRAY!!!! Tomorrow I see the Endodontist so he can finish the procedure. I am taking him a big box of donuts...

btw.. you guys were so helpful on the last thread.. the procedure did not hurt at all! It helped knowing the info that you all provided.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I know how you feel. I've had 2 root canals and even though they were both several years ago, I can remember the recovery well......Take your meds and take it easy for a couple of days. Within a week, you will feel 100%. :D

Oh Joan!! OUCH!! I can sooo relate to the pain. I interrupted one of the Bulls' championship, last game wins, at night, to call my dentist. I don't think he believed me (I also was crying from the pain). :( I survived also. The actual root canal was a piece of cake. ;) I hope the finishing touches go well for you. I don't think (but I'm not sure) that the finalized procedure would be tomorrow tho. In my case, I had to see my dentist again for the onlay (crown) on the tooth. Best wishes for a pain-free end to this.

(Are Tra & Mike still visiting?) :)

Thanks you late night dis'ers.. always there when I need ya!

Kim.. He drilled thru the crown that the dentist put on 2 weeks ago. Ya.. that was kinda freaky... He said tomorrow he can finish the root canal and put in a temp filling.. then I go back to my dentist and he will fix the crown again.. geez louise... I may need to go to Reno to win some money to pay for this tooth...

You interrupted a Bulls playoff... OH MAN!!!! You were lucky he answered the phone ;) :p

7 come 11 !!! mama needs to pay for her dental work!

Yup.. my texas boys are still here.. I am spoiling the little guy rotten.. completely, utterly and with much enjoyment!

What a racquet!! I tell ya, it was about the same for me, just had work done and, BAM, major pain shortly thereafter. I think he charged me 1/2 price for the 2nd (crown) onlay!!! You're right ~ Reno!! :teeth:

Yikes Joan!!!! I can't even imagine your pain, I am squirming in my chair just reading your post. I have no experience with root canal, but I can off you some......

That is the way I was. My tooth hurt so much I didn't care what they did, I just wanted it out! The root canal was a breeze compared to the pain!!! Glad you have it all over with now!!! {{{{HUGS}}}}

the last time i tried to have a root canal i ended up telling them to pull the tooth! too much pain for me
Id rather have false teeth lol

How awful, Joan! I do hope you had someone to drive you home after the procedure. I hate to think of you driving in that condition. Take care and enjoy those boys as long as you can,

Well, at least the worst part is over. I hope you're back to feeling like your old self again soon. :D

Sorry to hear about that experience. Pretty cool that your docs took care of you though.

I'm glad the worst part is behind you now, and that you have meds to control the pain. Tooth pain is just unbearable :(

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie

Root canels are no fun. I had one a couple of years ago that the dentist told me was going to be very difficult and suggested pulling the tooth and doing a bridge. The term difficult and root canal are simply two terms that you do not want to hear mentioned together. Luckily, I knew of an oral surgeon in the medical center who handles difficult cases (my wife had a root canal that was messed up by another dentiist) and he was able to do the root canal.

Good luck on your recovery. Now that the first stage is over, the cleaning out of the canal after some anti-biotics will be a great deal easier than what you just went through
