Yikes! 5-alarm fire in our little town!

Yes, it's even on the major news channels! A popular restaurant (Lowells) has been burning and re-routing traffic all over our town this afternoon. I went by it this morning driving the kids to and from camp and nothing was happening yet. So sad since there were several businesses in the complex.

Yikes! Isn't that the 2nd time Lowell's has burned? I used to live in Blackstone & go there for ice cream. DH & I were in the area sometime in that past year & stopped in to eat. It looked much different inside (structurally) from what I remembered as a kid.

Need to call DH. He drives Rt 16 from Milford to come home.

Wow, I just saw it on the news. And I can't believe Mendon doesn't have a fire hydrant system?

Oh, when I called DH -- he was already sitting in traffic. When he asked how I heard about it..... I told him I read it on the DIS. LOL. I can picture him sitting in his car rolling his eyes.

AH yes, we are almost all wells. Our neighborhood has two underground water tanks - let's just hope we never need to use them! We also have water behind us, but we'll be in deep doo-doo if they have to resort to using that!

So sad....saw it on the news and it was really strange to see a familiar place. As I said, I had gone by there about 3 hours before it started..wonder if things were brewing then? Will be interesting to hear the cause. The only good thing is that no lives were lost.

Funny thing about your DH! It's amazing the things we learn here on the DIS! Where does he work around here??

I was stuck in that traffic earlier too, my daughter and I decided to go down to Wrentham Village and as we turned onto Route 16 just beyond Fino (now Imperial), we came to a halt... we could see the thick smoke but didn't know what was on fire....

all the water trucks were coming back and forth, so I called my Mom (who has been in Norwood Hospital since last Wednesday) to tell her that we were trying again to go to the Crackerbarrel restaurant (last week we didn't make it because she was rushed to the hospital), this week we were stuck in traffic, that something's on fire and she said it was Lowell's, it was all over the news.

We just came back from Wrentham Village, we could see the flood lights and the cranes, but they still had both streets blocked off.
