Yeti? What Yeti?

I rode Expedition Everest twice on the afternoon of Sunday, March 19, and enjoyed the ride a great deal. Super job.

But people have talked about seeing some kind of monster called a "Yeti" during the ride, especially on these boards since I got back home. I did not see the Yeti. Is this something that only shows up sometimes?

I was looking around all the time during my rides on EE, never had my eyes closed, was never afraid of the ride in any way, but I did not see the Yeti.

At which point during the ride should one be looking for the Yeti? And should one be looking to the right, left, or straight ahead to see this monster?

I'll be back the week after Thanksgiving, and will once again be searching for the Yeti while enjoying this smooth coaster.

Thanks for any Yeti info you may have.

If the Yeti is operating normally, the light-levels in his cavern are up full and bright (not strobes, but full constant "stage lighting") like in Splash Mtn.

However, if the Yeti is experiencing "animatronic arthritis" (not moving correctly) they turn down/off the "stage lighting" and just pop a few strobes.
(Kind of like an electronic version of "if you BLINK" you might miss him.)
So, if you didn't (or don't now) see him in full-brightness, he is likely feeling a little "under-the-weather" during those trips.

It's towards the end of the ride. After you've gone backwards, I believe. It's huge and you really can't miss him. Did you sit towards the back? Perhaps there were very tall people in front of you that were blocking your view.

:confused3

My girlfriend didnt see the yeti when she rode EE either, when she was at Ak this past spring :confused3

Maybe he doesn't really exist. Actually he is almost at the end on your right side. But you have to look up a little. If he is working right his arm will move toward you like he is going to swipe you out of the train.

:lmao: That's cute: animatronic arthritis :)

If you go to www.youtube.com and search for Expedition Everest there's a video of the entire ride and the Yeti is shown on that. This is the #1 ride I'm looking forward to this upcoming trip!

How can you miss the Yeti!? He's the biggest animatronic ever invented! He's the scariest part of the ride and he's huge! They had to build the Everest mountain around him because he is so big!

LoL! I know! I thought he was going to rip my head off! I ducked everytime! It's right at the end (above you) before you leave the mountain for the last time and go back into the station. It's HUGE! I don't know how anyone could miss it! LoL. :)

OK, afterview viewing this on youtube I will certainly not be going on this ride. I am a ride wimp at the best of times.

:rotfl2: When we rode this the first time, dd and her friend rode behind me and were stressing about the Yeti through the entire line. When we pulled back in to unload, I turned around and both girls yelled, "What did the Yeti look like?" I stared in astonishment and said, "Hey, you WERE on the ride, right?" The guy seated behind them just burst out laughing. They'd closed their eyes and missed the whole thing!

Don't feel bad! I saw videos of EE prior to our June trip so I knew EXACTLY where the Yeti was going to be; however, I completely missed it! I don't know if my eyes were more focused on going out of the tunnel or what. I was so disappointed and my daughter who was riding with me missed it too and she catches everything!

Well, first you see the BIG shadow of the Yeti projected onto the wall after you go backwards.

After you are dropped down again, you'll soon go through another tunnel and at the end of that tunnel, just before exiting, you will see the HUMONGOUS yeti.

If he is working properly (and he was on May 16 when we were there...all three times we rode the ride), you will hear him roar and see him SWIPE AT YOU WITH HIS FRONT ARM/PAW!

So you know after you're done going backwards and the train stops and there's that huge projected image on the rock wall with that big thing breaking the track? That's the yeti.

And you know the part when the ride is just about over and you're going out of the big cave and that huge monster is up on top of a ledge with a big arm going up and down with fur blowing in the wind and the rawr-ing noise? You know, that big thing that looks like it's arm is going to scoop you right up that everyone screams over?

...That's the yeti.

we saw him when we went in April and will be seeing him again in a few days.

I'm a bit of a ride whimp too, but I rode it. It looks worse than it is in a way, because the ride is very smooth and pretty fast. The dark part is a little intense, but you can't see, so that makes it not so bad. The drop is so fast and smooth, it bothered me less than the drop on Splash Mountain. Maybe in part because of the hesitation on Splash mountain. If you've ever gone on the Mummy it is comparable. If this tests your limits a little, still, I thought both rides were worth testing my limits. The special effects are great.

AS for seeing the yeti, in addition to the end of the ride, you can also see his shadow earlier in the ride...

Also, we rode EE several times. Somtimes the ride pauses at the yeti, and sometimes it goes right past him. I think it depends which train you are on. So if a person was sitting in the back, and they only rushed past the yeti...it still seems a little hard to miss him completely, but not totally out of the question.

Incidentally, ***Spoiler ahead*** :sunny:
there is a hidden Mickey in the ice as you reach the top of the mountain for the first time. It is on the left side, and it helps if you are on the ride in the late afternoon, as the shadows favor him. It's a Mickey profile.

I'm pretty confused as to how you missed it too...you definitely HAD to have your eyes closed. You really can't miss him!

Here is a picture of the Yeti

I didn't want to post the picture for those of you who don't want the spoiler.

AGAIN, for those who don't know that there IS A DIFFERENCE between what you can see if the Yeti IS or IS NOT not operating normally....

If the Yeti IS operating normally, the light-levels in his cavern are up full and bright (not strobes, but full constant "stage lighting") like in Splash Mtn.
He would be virtually IMPOSSIBLE to MISS, if you don't have your eyes closed.

However, if the Yeti is experiencing "animatronic arthritis" (not moving correctly) they TURN OFF THE STAGE LIGHTING (its very DARK in the Yeti's cavern) and just flash a few strobe lights.
(Kind of like an electronic version of "if you BLINK" you might miss him.)

So, if you didn't see him in full-brightness, he is likely feeling a little "under-the-weather" during those trips.

And he would be easier to MISS under those conditions.

The first time I rode it I missed the Yeti because I had a visor on!! :rotfl2: Thank goodness that we had a Fastpass and rode again right away :sunny:
