So my wife just rode EE and is convinced that the Yeti is fixed. She says he 'swiped'at ger with his hand. She's ridden it before with disco yeti, and says that this time it was different.

Is there any way the yeti is fixed? or that EE has changed since last February?

I'm too chicken to ride it.

Thanks.

M

It would have to be closed for a lengthy time to fix the Yeti. The Yeti base is cracked due to the ride structure hitting it if I believe. Essentially, the ride is 3 different structures. The Yeti is the base with a solid structure. The ride is on top of that and needs the ability to move with the mountain as the last layer. It would be impossible to quickly fix the Yeti.

lol well i just rode it for the first time last week (twice), and was fully prepared to witness the famous disco yeti, but afterwards, was wondering if it had been fixed. i have no idea what the fully functioning yeti looked like, but i thought the disco one looked pretty good. guess i'm a sucker :)

I made this mistake last year and got hammered for it!

The strobe lights make it appear as though it's moving. As many may tell you, in order to fix it, it would take shutting down the ride for a period of time.

It really does look like the yeti is moving!

Its definitely not fixed, but the good news is that they do plan on getting to it.

I believe they've said before that for them to fix the yeti the way it needs to be fixed, they'd have to take some of the mountain apart to be able to get in there. So that'd be a lengthy closure. Hopefully once Pandora opens is when they'll get to work on it

Was she doing a bit of boozing? Sucking back on grandpa's old cough medicine? (line from Dumb and Dumber).

The Yeti hasn't been fixed. It won't get fixed for a long time. I'd guess we're looking at 2025 before they'd do any fix to the Yeti. They'll have to wait until EE needs some major work and needs a lengthy refurb. Fixing the Yeti would shut the ride down for a year. They won't do that until there are other issues with the ride that require a long, long refurb.

I've ridden EE many times, including when the Yeti was brand new and still working, so I know the difference. But in your wife's defense, though, I will say that the last couple of times we've ridden it did seem that "Betty the Disco Yeti" was reaching out to grab us, more than it has in the past after it broke! Maybe it's the timing of the lights....

Ok...so I feel a bit dumb. What is disco yeti? I haven't been to Disney in years and Yeti was working then. We're going in 2017 and hoping the ride isn't close for refurb! But if it is, that's ok...it gives me an excuse to plan another trip!

Yeti does not move at all, but is lit by flashing strobe ("Disco") lights.

It can somewhat trick the eye into seeing "motion."

The Yeti hasn't worked (it swipes at you) since since near the beginning of Everests opening. So once it broke the Yeti now doesn't move. There's a strobe light near it that with the way the Yeti is placed, it looks like it's moving due to the strobe. The Disco Yeti just comes from the strobe light effect

Thanks for clearing that up robo and cas239. I have great memories of it working and feel that it is part of what made it a fun ride. I'm glad the strobe light effect exists for people to be "tricked" by. That at least sounds like they are trying to do something until they can actually fix it. I think, given the nickname, that they should blast out "Stayin' Alive" while riding past disco yeti.

I'm NOT crazy!

I was absolutely sure that in the first video I saw the Yeti actually swooped down and then I showed it to my kid on Youtube and it looked way less intense. It really IS different!

I feel way better now.
