well, labor day weekend will probably be busy, but maybe you'd have luck with low crowds sometime during that tuesday-friday after labor day?

the following week (14th-18th) is a home educator's conference and there will be thousands of homeschoolers in disneyland (myself included!).

i don't know what that following week will be like (21st-25th), although if we can judge by year's past, Haunted Mansion Holiday won't be quite opened back up yet, so maybe that's a good week to go also, as far as crowds? (last year it seemed like a lot more people than expected converged as soon as HMH opened back up. my family was there on the 29th and 30th of september - a monday and tuesday, and it was much more crowded than we had hoped).

by the last week of september, people are starting to come and enjoy the halloween festivities, and last year at least, that meant an increase in crowd levels. but if you don't want to miss HM, then you'd have to wait this late to go.

so, to recap: 8th-11th might be good if you're looking for low crowds, as might the 21st-25th. the 14th-18th there is a homeschooler's conference that actually occurs on disney property (not at the convention center), including not-back-to-school-day in disneyland park on that tuesday. finally, the last week of september might see some crowd levels picking up, but if you want to see HM, that's the time to go.

also, there's that week before labor day, so hopefully someone can give you some advice as to what the crowds are usually like that week (1st-4th).

hope that helps!

Thank you so much it does help a lot.
I was thinking that the week of labor day would be crowded due to people staying longer.
My birthday is the 12 so maybe the 8-11 would be best. With a pop in on my birthday to get my gift card for souviners to take home.

Sept 10-13 is the D23 Expo, as well. We were originally booked for those dates and switched to Sept 17-20 because of that. With the homeschooling convention now, I am wondering if we did the right thing?

Something else to consider during the D23 Expo week is the Haunted Mansion Anniversary celebration 9-9-09. That seems to be generating some interest and talk about being in the parks.

We were scheduled to go to DLR the week of the D23 and changed to Nov. since we are trying to avoid the high crowds.

We have been in Sept. before and it was lovely, but I don't think that is the case this Sept. It seems like so much is going on that it won't be *off season*.

Looks like you should go at the end of August and forgo the free gift. I hate crowds, I hear the first week of September, or the last week of August will be better. Im not sure.

the homeschooling conference is the 14th-18th. this will be my first year going to it, so i don't know if it really increases the crowds or not. judging how fast the rooms being offered for the conference at the DLR hotels sold out though, maybe that's an indicator that it a lot of people are coming? sorry i can't be more helpful, i wish i knew more!

ETA: i just found this....it is a list of rides & attractions that are expected to be closed in september. you may want to check it out before choosing a week to go.....it looks like quite a few things will be down:

Thanks Mugglemama! I had seen the closures, DH isn't really big on the rides anyway, so it's not a big concern this time around without our kids going. I think we are going to have to stick with the 17th-20th because my parents are already expecting to watch them those days. I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best! :)

i just doublechecked...the conference is actually the 14th-17th (my family will be staying through the 18th, which is why i got confused). i think that tuesday (15th) is the Not-Back-To-School-Day, although i have to confirm that. when you see a ton of people there wearing tie-dye, lol, you'll know it's the homeschoolers! (just for the record, my family likely will NOT be wearing tie-dye, LOL!!! not that i have anything against tie-dye, but i AM sort of against my whole family wearing matching clothes.)

:rotfl:

Jenn, I am afraid Oct will be much worse. The first week would probably be best as it gets more and more crowded the closer we get to Halloween. The 12th is Columbus Day, most kids are out of school so it will be busy.

Whenever you decide to go, have a great trip.:)

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it.

What about October?
Jen

i'm not sure if you'll be able to go back far enough to find them, but last october on the disboards there were several threads concerning the unexpected huge october crowds.

some people even describe being stuck in stand-still crowds while inside shops on main street.

A couple of places list the unofficial gay days as Oct 2-4. Up to you whether you want to avoid it or not.
