Those of you who upgraded from a category 9 to a 5 or 6 at the port, please let me know what you paid.

I'm not sure if we are going to upgrade or not, but I am definitely going to see how much it will be, and would like to have a reference to go by.

Thanks!

For our June 7 Western cruise. We paid $700 to go from a Category 11 to a Category 5. It was great. I think it depends on how full the ship is. However, if the upgrade is very important to you, you are taking a chance that there won't be any Category 5 or 6 rooms available. Have a wonderful cruise!

We are wondering the same thing. We had a gty 11 and got a cat 9 on deck 2. It's only the three day but we thought about upgrading to a verandah room but would not spend $700. Was yours a three or seven day?

What about the cat 7's that had been cat 6's. Any chance of those being available?

If you upgrade at the port are you charged the difference between your original gty room rate or the rate of the upgraded room you are assigned to the new upgrade you pick at the port.

If you ask the question of DCL before the cruise about how much they will charge you at the pier to upgrade, they will say from the category you booked (i.e. booked an 11, want 6;) but at the pier: if you had a rare complementary upgrade, such as to a 9; you are charged from that 9, not the original 11. You request the upgrade after you check in. Your KTTW cards are not coded until you hand them to the CM at the beginning of the "ramp" onto the ship. The CM passes them through a scanner of sorts to encode them etc. On my recent 4 day, I booked a cat 9, got an upgrade to a 5 but then purchased an upgrade to a 4 (family stateroom) for 300. There is a chart they use for the prices. I tried to look at it but the CM took it back.

So it would be best to check in and then go to guest services and see if any other rooms are available? At that point they would charge the difference from our cat 9 rate?

We really don't care either way about the cat 9. We are very excited that we got upgraded from the 11. Just not sure about deck 2. Have only stayed on deck 7 in the past. Kind of excited about seeing what the cat 9 with window looks like but wondering if I can handle being that close to the water.

You check in first, then go to the Supervisor's line to check on avaiability to upgrade. I don't know if a regular line could change your room within the same category. You could also check to see if you could change your room to a cat 8, higher up on the ship. If there is a charge for that it couldn't be much since cat 8 & 9 are both considered "outsides". Personally, I like Deck 2 (towards the aft best): close to the food. Didn't think being near the water was a problem. I have been on 2, 5 & 8.

We just got back from the 4 night Wonder and we booked a cat. 11 a year and a half ago. When we got to the port we asked how much it would be to upgrade from a cat. 11 to a cat. 4. They said it would be around $850. They said it would be around $550 to upgrade to a cat. 10 that has a verhanda. I think it would have been worth it to upgrade to a verhanda but we stayed in our cat. 11 and enjoyed every second of it!!

I think you must mean a cat. 6 with a veranda.. Cat. 10's don't have one, they do have the split bath though.

on a 7 night cruise we paid $1000.00 to go from cat 10 secret porthole room to cat 4 this was the western route
Inaugural cruise......... we r going to do it again
in like 3 weeks some how we also got a 200 dollar ship board credit.............

I just sailed 9/6. We were in a cat 11. To go to a cat 6 (only available), it would have cost $600+. I checked in 1st, then went to the supervisor's line. Once we sailed, I checked on an upgrade at guest services. They had a cat 9 for (I think) $300+. We didn't take it due to location, but I was a bit taken aback that they were going to charge after we had already set sail.

I am confused. Why wouldn't they charge for an upgrade regardless if they had already set sail?
