I just feel better venting even though the flames will come. I bought alot of my christmas gifts at boscovs. Of course I lost one receipt and it's the one I needed. I have to return a hoody, big name brand that I paid 40. for. They wouldn't even let me take the store 20% coupon off because it's designer and new item. I went to return it, knowing I'll probably lose some of its value and have to accept credit. Went to the register, explained the situation and she scanned it and said 30. bucks. I thought, that's not bad ok. So I shopped, and had picked out a bunch of things over the return cost. Got to the register and the girl said she did something wrong and without a receipt I would only get 9. back. Then she sent me to the mens dept. thinking they could fix it.
Go to the men's dept. where I'm told yep 9. oops no 7.25 back. OK I paid 40. for this. It's a new line item. They can't tell me when it's ever been 7.25. If I ever saw *********** hoodies for that price I'd buy a dozen. My boys wear these all the time, I could never imagine finding them for that. Well app. Boscov's has register roullette games where you could conceivably get 90% off although I doubt anybody ever gets that. That's what they're basing their return price on. Then they'll give me that for the shirt and put it back on the rack for 40. Aaargh.

Can you get a copy of the reciept from them?

Mikeeee

Could you just exchange it for a hoody in a size/color that your son will wear?

I don't mean this as a jab at you at all, but in my family the gift is the gift. It may not be exactly what you would have picked, but it's what the gift giver picked for you so keep it. The only reason something would get returned is if you got two of exactly the same thing. I just don't get the whole idea of returning so much stuff after christmas.

Did you return it for that amount? No way would I have returned it for that amount. I would donate it first or maybe even tried selling on ebay.

I don't see the reason in keeping something that you don't like. I see nothing wrong with trying to return or exchange an unwanted item. If I gave someone a gift I wouldn't want them to dislike it.

they had no xl's which is what my boys wear. What happened is I bought the wrong size for a nephew, but boscov's is a drive for me and I had to get the package in the mail. I bought something local and figured I'd just take it back. Only the exact same item can be exchanged for it for that price. I'm calling today. If no luck I'll keep it as a future gift. But i'll stop shopping there over this, not that they care.

That's upsetting. I understand how come the stores expect the receipt, but I can also sympathize with people who honestly misplace the receipt yet have to pay the piper penalty for those who fraudulently return items and made the stores toughen their return policies.

Did you buy it with a credit card or debit card? Maybe when the bank statement comes with the listing of all items pruchased you could use that to prove what you paid. I know my bank statement is quite detailed for cc and debit purchases -- lists the store name and price paid.

If not, I wouldn't take 90% off. I'd exchange it for another size/color, give it to someone else, or bring it to a shelter.

This is the fundamental problem with gift-giving, these days. In the past, I think we actually KNEW our family and friends BETTER, and therefore knew very well what they would want, need and like. I think the whole idea of a Wish List started in the 1930s, probably some big-wig retailer's idea, like Macy's or Gimble's. :) Also, I think much more so in the past, the fact that something was given by some specific loved on -- lovingly picked out by that loved one -- made more of a difference with people. THAT was the gift -- not the item, but the love. The item was just a token.

I understand why Boscov and other retailers have the receipt requirement -- to make sure that someone doesn't pay half price and then get a full price refund.

What I don't get is the "register roulette" you went through. I know that where I work, I can look up the retail history of an item. Besides, if the first cashier said $30 credit, then they should have given you $30 credit. A $21 difference is a pretty big "oops" IMO. Something's wrong with that.

what upset me is they couldn't really give a full explanation for the price difference. I asked when it was on sale for that price and they couldn't tell me. They said we have register roulette and coupons and various things that you could have combined with a sale to get it much lower. We figure out the lowest possible price and then take an additional 20% off for not having the receipt. I asked how far they go back and they didn't know. I asked the gentleman who runs that department if he has ever seen *********** hoodies for that price or anywhere near it and he had to admit he hadn't. The shame is I love Boscov's. I should have a charge but I was doing a cash only christmas.
And the ooops really upset me. After she gave me that price I shopped for over an hour only to find out they weren't giving me the credit, where I put all the stuff back.

Did you make your purchase at the store and they ordered it for you from another Boscov's? Or, did you order online or through shop by phone?

no paper trail, just a store purchase. I have all the tags on the garment. I could be dishonest and take it into the local surf shop and trade it for something my kids can use. Just kidding.

You should have made them call around to all the other Boscovs within 30 miles of you to see if they had it in an extra large, then asked them to have it sent to them so you could return it for the size you needed. I bet the second it became a huge inconvience for them, they may have changed their tune, if not then you would atleast hopefully have the sweatshirt sent in the correct size.
Other suggestion is writing to the district manager explaining the large price difference, maybe it was not even a brand that was eligible for the roulette deal and they were just assuming.

I had a similar problem at Wal-Mart once. I bought jeans, and when I tried to return them a few days later they gave me a price way lower than what I'd paid for it. The pants I got NEVER were that low price, but the regular size (mine were fat lady jeans) ones had been discounted. She would absolutly not budge on it and it was just one more reason to hate Wal-mart.

Doesn't it seem that the one receipt you need is the one you can't find? I am very careful these days when I do Christmas or birthday shopping, but somehow, I manage to misplace at least one receipt. This year, I spent a few days looking for a receipt. I know the kids were going to love what I bought (and they did), but I was worried about the fit, etc. And it isn't always that we don't know what they want, or what size. Sometimes things are defective or the fit isn't right (a medium from one manufacturer isn't the same as a medium from another). I do understand why retailers want the receipt. It doesn't make it any less frustrating for the honest shoppper.

this is literally my only missing receipt and nothing else needs to go back. I spent probably 1800. on holidays and am missing one stupid receipt.

I hate when that happens. I suppose, though, that I probably lose more receipts than just the one I need, but I don't really care about having lost track of the rest! :rotfl:
