Yet another reason to stay out of the damn lakes!

This very sad story was on our news channel today, and I couldn't help but think of Pete's warning, this is just so serious, such a tragic story:

Sad story, but the good news is that it's pretty easy to avoid getting amoebas up your nose.

1. Don't swim in stagnant waters (ie, the water you swim in should be in motion, and not just because you're splashing)

2. Wear a nose plug.

Living in my part of Canada, I'd add to that - Don't ever drink untreated water and don't let your dog drink it either. Giardia isn't usually fatal, but it's no fun, either.

Personally, when I swim in a lake, I tend to keep my head mostly out of the water. Swimmers ear hurts!
 
we had the same thing happen like this last month at lake Marion or lake Murray, the little girl was about 7 to 10 years as well and died from a amoeba invading her brain from the lake.:sad1:. My heart goes out to his family
