Yet another question...(BLT points)

Let me just start this by saying how incredibly thankful I am for all you kind souls on here who are willing to help us newbies with our endless amount of questions, I really appreciate you all so much.

Now on to my question...

I recently started the process to buy into BLT (Expected to close in April), I have Developer Points that have to be used by October 2, 2009. When will I actually get my first set of points for BLT (I have a February UY)?

I thought I recalled her saying I would get the DPs, and then points when the BLT actually opened, and then another set of points in February, but I'm not sure about this, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you are correct. You get Developer points that need to be used at SSR, Disneyland or RCI by OCt. 3. You also get use of your Feb 09 points starting in August because that is when BLT opens. You will however only pay Maintenance fees on BLT for Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec. You will then get your new 2010 points Feb 1st.


You can of course book with your new points now. The Feb 09 points can be booked now for stays after Aug 09 but have to be used by Jan 31 st. I think. You can bank them though. If you know you can't use them before Next Jan 31 you need to bank them. I think your banking Deadline for you 09 points would be September 30th. Then you will be able to combine them to use with your 2010 points for stays after Feb 1, 2010 to Jan 31st, 2011.

That's how I thought it worked out, but I wasn't 100% sure, and we're trying to figure out what we're doing for our Honeymoon next year, and it makes it much easier knowing what we're working with. :-D

The moved up the opening date of BLT to August 4th!! So you actually can use your 09 points after August 4th.

We signed all of our papers for our BLT purchase and were able to make a reservation at BLT that same day (even thought we won't close until mid-April). We also received our member cards the day we signed our paperwork so we could immediately take advantage of any DVC discounts while we were at the park.

Also, if you don't feel you will be traveling with your actual BLT points before January 31, you could bank those 2009 points and have double the points to use in 2010. I think that would be the best of all uses, since you can use the Developer points for a trip yet this year.

I'm thinking of using my 2009+2010 points to take my sister and her family on a DLC, so I'm trying to figure out how all my points are going to work. I am so excited to be able to use these points to do things for my family. :-D

Even though BLT is opening earlier, if you unit will not be available until later, you will still have to wait until your unit opens up before you can actually stay there. Your unit number is on your contract. This is the only time this sort of thing happens, when a new DVC resort opens up.

This happened to me with AKV. AKV was supposed to open September, 2007, but opened a few months earlier when they released units with the earlier opening date. My unit opened in September, so I was not able to make an earlier reservation.

Bummer! Never thought about some units opening later than others. With BLT being a single building, do you think that is very likely to happen to us?

I personally shouldn't be affected don't have ressies until Nov. 29th and I'm in Unit 13A (my dad isn't too fond of the 13, but conveniently he isn't the owner...).

What would happen if you already made reservations and your unit wasn't open yet; do they get canceled???

Oh No This could be a problem for us. We are going Aug 16-21 and using our SSR points for a two bedroom, but we also need to book an additional studio using 80 of our 160- 2009 points. If this is true, we may not be able to pull our points to make this reservation?? Oh That would be awful. I am going to ask our guide. We have put a email out to him for the purchase (since he is on the cruise) to ensure we get the SSR incentive. He told me prior to leaving on his cruise that we could do that. He even checked on availability of the SSR resort. But maybe we (our unit) won't be released yet (since we actually haven't bought yet). Oh this will make a difference to my DH as to whether we buy direct from Disney. If we can't use the SSR points, then we might as well buy AKV from Resale. OH this is not good news!!!
