We just got back last night, staying 9/24 - 10/2. We had a good trip, and although we have stayed at POP before for 3 days (and liked it), spending 9 days there was a bit much. We felt the resort was very crowded. And after talking to a CM at POP, we understood why. The hotel was at 100% capacity last week. And boy did it show! My parents spent an afternoon at POR and then took the boat to DTD with my daughter one of the days last week. They spoke with a CM there and POR was at only 25% capacity. At that time we joked that we should have moved.
I am not normally a complainer, and I can make the best of a not-so-great situation, but this trip we did ask to change rooms. We were originally assigned a room in building 7, second floor facing the computer pool. I think it is the 80's building. It was a really loud location, and far from everything else. As we lay in bed that first night we would almost be asleep when we would here someone scream in the pool. Very annoying. Plus, just my opinion, but the 80's and 90's section are very boring, theme-wise. I really think they could have come up with something more "imagineered" than a computer pool. Come on, it's just a square pool. My husband went to the Front desk the next morning in search of a new room, and thank goodness they were able to find us a room in building 10, 70's building, facing the playground. We had connecting rooms with my parents in rooms 0142 and 0143. It was a great location, close to the food court, close to Hippy Dippy, close to the busses, and close to the parking lot. For those that were there last week and in the same area, our room had the McDonald's Tinkerbell in the window. I think every child that went by stopped to see Tink.
We didn't have any noise issues once we changed rooms. Every now and then we would hear a toilet flush, but it certainly didn't keep me up at night. No towel animals this trip, but not surprising when the hotel is full. Our room was clean with plenty of soap and towels. It is a bit annoying that you have to use your room towels for the pool at POP. Thankfully we brought our beach towels, so we didn't have to scrounge for towels.
I enjoy the "kitzchy" feel of POP, and we loved the Hippy Dippy Pool, but we did feel a little overstimulated by the end of the week. The bus stops were horribly crowded at peak times, but I think that may be a product of the Magical Express. People like us, who normally drive and use our car once at the "World", decided to fly and not get a rental car. Leaving us, like many others, at the mercy of Disney Transportation. But I do need to add, the drivers were wonderful. With a special nod to "Rodger Dodger, who is an old codger" and Arthur. Very kind men. Like the drivers, we had only positive experiences with CM's. Ruben and Tawni at the front desk were very patient with us. We didn't encounter a grumpy one the entire week. One of the reasons I like going in the off season is the "snow bird" CMs. The older CM's are better at customer service (for the most part) and seem to really enjoy being there and spreading the magic. During the summer when the "summer job" crew is there they really don't seem to care much about pixie dust.
Overall, even though the resort was a bit cramped, we did have a nice week. I think, based on past Septembers, it was a bit more crowded than usual. But if you didn't follow the lemmings everyday (avoid MK on Monday) it wasn't bad at all.
