A 35-year-old woman fell and lost consciousness after getting off Mission: Space at Epcot on Monday night.

The woman, who was described only as a "local," was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center by the hospital's helicopter.

About 8:30 p.m., she was getting off the ride when she "fell from a standing position," hit her head and was briefly unconscious, said Deputy Chief Bo Jones of the Reedy Creek Fire Department.

By the time rescue-crew members arrived, the woman had regained consciousness but was not completely alert and reported tingling in her arms and hands, Jones said.

To get her to the hospital quickly, an ORMC helicopter landed in a backstage area of Epcot.

She was taken in "stable, improving condition," Jones said, adding that rescue workers reported she had become more alert and had more sensation in her arms and hands as she was being taken to the hospital.

Boy is disney going down the drain

I disagree. That ride has tons of warnings regarding health issues and I think many people either disregard them or are unaware of their own health situation. I, for one, refuse to board a ride that comes equipped with a vomit bag. I don't know about the rest of you, but throwing up has never been amusing for me!

ALL of the people that have died on Mission Space had health issues they were not aware of or they chose to ignored the warnings... Mission Space did not kill them....their health issues did.

It is sad when any one dies.... it is sad when a 4 year old dies.... but again, even the poor 4 yo had medical problems no one knew about.....

I totally agree with Doc. I for one heed the warnings...(I tend to have horrible problems with motion sickness so I shop while the family rides. :smooth: ) The warnings are not just there for our amusement. If you have ANY health issues DO NOT RIDE! Geez. You can hardly blame Disney for this one.

The sad thing is, I have a 4yo niece, and my brother wouldnt dream of taking her on a ride like that because she's too young for those rides. I agree, the signs are there, and people should pay more attention to what they say, and not pass them off as more queue decor!

well, i had a bad experience on mission: space (no where near as bad as the 4 year old story or the one posted on this thread, but i won't go into detail about it). i just don't like that ride, and i can't understand why that mother brought her 4 year old son on the ride in the first place, maybe she didn't think the ride would be that bad despite the warnings. can i have more info on the lady who fell while getting off? did she just faint, or did something make her fall? i guess this isn't disney's fault, but when i read about the 4 year old in a newspaper in NY, it said disney wouldn't let anyone (experts outside of disney i mean) look at the ride to try to fix it. now is it just me, or does that seem bad and like disney is afraid of the verdict?

I feel bad for her, but I just wonder, how do you fall from a standing position unless the ground is wet, and I believe it probably wasn't.

i agree with this and having ridden Mission: Space multiple times, even if it was two years ago, there were plenty of warnings even then.. almost so many that it was annoying and i feel that people who don't know Mission Space that well, walk into it thinking its an extreme Space Mountain and ignore the warnings are the people who mostly fall victim to it's power..

Anyone seeing a pattern of medical emergencies in the last two years at Disney? i mean Rock'n Roller Coaster has always been safe, and up till last year, Mission: Space wasn't know as the ride everyone dies on

Does it say anywhere whether she was on the intense side or the less intense ride? Just wondering...

Me, MickeysMusic and my dh rode the intense Mission Space 2 years ago -- but once was enough for us (MickeysMusic enjoyed it). Just 2 months ago, we rode the less intense ride to see the difference, but again..it wasn't anything that I would want to go back on though.

Perhaps she just... fell over. I mean, I know sometimes after sitting for a while or when I am really tired... I stand up too fast and get dizzy for a second. Perhaps she just lost her balance. We're all human... we've all taken our turns falling over! Some more than others... :rolleyes1

Yes, this is true. ;) But I'm really interested in which side she went on...

:rotfl2: totally agree barf bags are not my idea of a promise of a fun ride....if you don't need it chances are the one next to you, in front of you or behind you might!

Which in turn would cause the chain reaction of everyone needing a bag.

On another news link http://www.orlandosentinel.com/orl-...stemaile it went more into detail. The woman did not say anything about which version of the ride she went on, and she did not fall directly after getting up from the ride seat (I assume, since they did not know which version she went on).

Disney officials did not close the ride down to check it because there was no indication that her fall was directly related to defects of the ride.

Around 11:30 that night, she was released from the hospital.

In 12 months, paramedics were called to 194 complaints of dizziness, nausea, and vomiting after riding Mission:Space.

I rode M:S once, near the time it opened, and I didn't feel sick on the ride, or after. However, once I got off the ride, I did feel rather dizzy. I will not be riding the "extreme" version again, but I might try the new "tamer" version next week when we go (WOOT!!! one more week!! :cool1: )

I feel terrible for these people who have gotten sick after riding M:S, but they should not have ignored the warnings. If you have any kind of doubt that you won't be able to handle a mock take-off of a space shuttle, don't ride, or at least take the tamer version.

i agree with you, there literally is about 30 warnings saying if you have this this or this DO NOT go on this ride. I know this from experience. i went on the ride, partially because my cousin made me and i had no idea what it was. it turns out it was fun, but a little scary and made you dizzy. if any of you are thinking about going i would recomend it for kids and teens, but all the adults i know said they hated it. but remember consider the risk
