Yet another NYE question....

Okay, I was fine until I started reading about how crowded NYE will be!

Here's our dilemma: We're getting off DCL on Dec. 31 and then heading to the Swan. I think we can disembark around 8:00 which will get us to the Swan around 9:00. We'll dump the bags and head to Magic Kingdom. Assuming all goes right (yeah, right) we won't even be able to get there until around 11:00 or so.

Does the Swan count as "on property"?

What will happen to our PS at Liberty Tavern (dinner) if we can't get in?

Should I prepare my family for the possibility that we won't make it in or do you think we'll have a shot?

Thanks, everyone!

You'll have a shot, but I would definitely prepare your gang for the possibility that you won't make it in. Better to be prepared and then pleasantly surprised when you're in, then to assume it'll be no problem and then not have a Plan B. At the very least, you might want to discuss which other park you'd want to go to if MK is full.

That said, in the context of the various levels of park closures, the Dolphin and Swan are considered "on property" resorts. They are included in the overall group of "Resort Guests, Shades of Green Guests, and Hotel Plaza Guests" to whom entrance is admitted until the park is closed to all guests. (Note that some phases of closing require that you use hotel transportation or Disney transportation -- you'll be allowed into the park, but your car won't be. So plan on heading over via Disney bus if you can.)

If you can't get into MK due to park closing, you'll be forfeiting your PS at Liberty Tavern.

Most everyone that has been to MK on NYE say if your not there by 10 than your not getting in. It is the first park closed for full capacity. You should definately plan to go somewhere else in case.

I agree that you will not get into MK. I would start now making alternate plans. When we were there for NYE, MK was closed before noon, MGM was the next to close I think and Epcot was still taking people who already had tickets. They were selling no tickets. You had to already have one. NYE is crazy. We spent it at MGM and walked back to the Dolphin. Buses were packed. We did have a PS for dinner. If we had not had one, we would not have gotten in at any sit-down type restaurant. They were turning away people in droves.

Are you talking about getting to the Swan/Dolphin at nine in the morning or evening? If evening, forget it.

If morning, you have a good chance of getting in.

If you can't get in right away, check back later, because they close and reopen the parks throughout the day.

Your PS will not guarantee you entry, but if you had to secure it with a credit card, be prepared to argue to have the ten dollar per person no show fee canceled (if it was an aspect of your PS as it so often is for the holidays).

Since you are staying at the Swan (great choice), you might want to consider MGM or Epcot for NYE. They are so much closer. You can take a nice boat ride or walk. No need to worry about crowded busses. Go to MK on New Years Day. I've read several posts that have reported the parks aren't very crowded that day, which surprised me. Hopefully you can make it to MK at opening on NY Day, and everybody in your group will be happy with that. I would definitely ask a CM at the Swan on NY Eve if MK is closed. I would hate to ride a bus over there and be turned away.

You guys are awesome, I knew this was the place to come! My DH seems to think we can disembark as early as 7:00AM but we're relying on the buses back. Keeping my fingers crossed that we make it back in time. I wish there was a way to just go straight there but we have to deal with our luggage and checking in.

It won't be the end of the world (maybe!) if we don't get in but we're going with our niece and she is only 4, this is her first trip and we really SHOULD start at MK. We have PS for the princess breakfast on New Year's Day so we'll be at Epcot on the 1st. Why did I think we could just stroll into MK on NYE????? These boards are such a great source of info. Luckily, we're pretty easy going people - we'll have a great time wherever we end up. Happy Holidays to all of you!
