I have a reservation with a town car service for my up coming trip. My confirmation suggested that I tip the driver who takes me to the hotel upon arrival at the hotel in case the return driver is not the same person. That is what I have done in the past.

This got me to thinking. I know the suggested tip is 20% . But, 20% of what? My r/t is $80. Should I tip 20% of $40 to the driver that brings me to the hotel and 20% of $40 to the driver that brings me back to the airport? Or do I tip 20% on the full $80 each way? :confused3

Hi,

You tip 20% of the one way fare each way.

If you are paying $40 each way, you should tip $8 each way. I think that's the easiest way to do it.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Thanks, Bob. That helps--but not the driver! I had tipped 20% of the r/t fare each way in the past. I bet I'll make it an even $10--I'd still come out ahead!
