Yet another DME question!

DH and I did not purchase a seat on the plane for DS (he'll be 17 months at time of travel), so we're crossing our fingers that there will be an extra seat for him. Just in case, we'll be bringing his car seat. So, I know there won't be a problem with the flight to MCO from our home... if there is a seat for him, we'll bring the carseat on the plane with us. And, if there isn't a seat for him, we'll have JetBlue check it with the rest of our luggage.

We'll be flying JetBlue home and using DME (including getting our boarding passes at GF). So... here's the question... will the DME people at the GF know if there are extra seats on the plane? And, if not -- do we just bring the car seat with us on the DME bus and if, for some reason, there is not an extra seat on the plane, will JetBlue check the carseat for us? Or will we have to (somehow) use it as one of our carryons? Or can we leave it outside the door of the plane with the stroller? :confused3

So many questions! :flower3:

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

I am just want to know why you are bringing a car seat on the chance there will be an open seat? The magical express does not have seat belts so you have to store the car seat under the bus. If you are not renting a car I would just leave it at home because you won't need it.

We're bringing the carseat on the chance there will be an open seat on the plane because if there is an open seat for DS, there is no way he'd sit in the seat all by himself (without a carseat). If we have the carseat, he's likely to nap/sleep (our flight to MCO is early evening and our flight back home is late evening)... He loves his carseat and frequently naps in the car.

I understand we'd have to store the carseat under the bus -- that's not a problem. I was just wondering if the DME people at GF would know if there will be open seats on our flight home...

You won't know if you are getting a seat until you board the plane..... if seats are open at that time, they will let you use one.

You do what you want, but if you want a seat for your son, you should buy one so you are guaranteed it. I personally think the seat with his own car seat is the best, safest way to go.

Have a great trip.

In September we wanted the car seat for the plane for DS, as well. It was his first flight and we figured he would sleep in the seat, which he did.

I ended up buying him a seat prior to going. If there is NOT a seat for your DS to use the car seat and you have to keep him on your lap, the car seat will be gate checked with the stroller.

I did not want my car seat gate checked, as I have watched them load luggage and gate checked items. They tend to hurl them into the plane and with the car seat, the integrity of the seat could be compromised by a huge whack while being tossed into the belly of the plane.

So, we bought the seat to ensure it would not have to be gate checked.

I'm another one who would recommend just biting the bullet and buying a seat for your ds now. I wouldn't count on there being a free seat...those flights to and from MCO are usually pretty full. I don't know which seats you and your dh have already selected, but I would imagine that you are in a window and an aisle...hoping that middle seat stays open. If someone buys that seat then you or your dh will most likely have to switch seats with the middle seat person in order to sit together. I just wouldn't take that chance. I also hate the thought of having my child on my lap for those 3 hrs...that would make me nuts!!!
But, it is your ds and your choice in the end.

Thanks for all of your advice.

I just checked JetBlue's website and the first flight (to MCO) is almost full already (we still have a little over a month to go). I think I will go ahead and book a seat for DS... I will be 3 months pregnant when we travel and I really don't want to have to hold (a squirmy) DS for 2 1/2 hours. PLUS if I book him a seat, we have a larger baggage allowance, right? :thumbsup2

If only we had booked it when we booked ours. Of course the roundtrip cost for DS is now $30 more than we paid for ours... Oh, well.

Thanks again!
