We were at the CR from 11/3 - 11/8 on 11/5 in a room on the 12th floor of the tower, MK side. We came home from the park right after lunch for a little break only to find the housekeeper and a man in a suit talking to a man and a 10'ish year old kid right by our door....they stepped aside and we did not pay any attention, thinking they were discussing a housekeeping issue. Our room was only 1/2 cleaned (bathroom done, but beds not made).... A little later the housekeeper came into finish up and apologized for taking so long...no problem, DH and DD went out on the balcony to wait while she made the beds. When they went out there the housekeeper told me to "Be VERY sure you lock the sliding door with the top lock" I laughed and said "OK, but I doubt if too many people break in to rooms from 12th floor balconies!" and then she told me that she was cleaning the bathroom and heard a noise and thought a bird had flown into the glass door and when she stepped out to look there was a boy on the balcony, leaning over the partition talking to someone on the next balcony. She stood there a moment and then the child came back to the door and pulled and tugged on it again. As soon as he saw her walking toward him he hollered and climbed up on the chair by the partition and was pulled by "big hairy arms" back onto the next balcony!! She immediately called security and they came right away (that was who was chatting with the people when we had arrived).

Fortunately I am married to door locking fanatic who makes sure everything is triple locked before going anyplace....the housekeeper just shrugged when I asked her if they did anything to the man next door and said they never tell her things like that but she did say the security guy thanked her for calling them and said that "this may explain a lot of wierd things that have happened around here the past couple of weeks". Security never approached us at all, but since our room was never entered I don't suppose there was any reason to. By that evening another family was on the balcony during fireworks so obviously the creep and kid were gone. Of course all they would have found in our room was our dirty clothes (well I guess at that point in the trip there were still some clean ones too), but again, DH the paranoid had everything else of value on his person. Guess I am going to have to quit making fun of him for his over protective ways!!

Thank you so much! This is a great wake up call! We all feel so safe at wdw that some of us forget to take basic precautions. Thanks for the reminder. It just makes me so sad that an adult would use a child this way.

OMG that's just nuts!! We were on the 11th floor in September and I can't even imagine anyone climbing over the balcony from another room, let alone a child!! I don't think we locked the balcony door the entire time we were there, we just never thought anyone would break in from the outside.

I tell you, this world we live in just gets more and more frightening every day.

Isn't that the truth!

What do these people do? Help their kid get to the next balcony over, see if the sliders are unlocked, then instruct them to go in and steal a purse or something?

That is just crazy! :earseek:

More than likely they would send the kid over to the next balcony, see if the sliding door is unlocked and the kid lets the adult into the room through the door.

We always lock our balcony doors and close the curtains, leave the TV on and lights and put out the do not disturb sign. When in the room we put the double security lock on the outside always even during the day.

I find it very interesting how naive some are when on vacation. Criminals go to vacation destinations for this very reason.

Thats just horrible! I know we don't always lock balcony doors if we aren't on the first floor, but now I'll make sure we do so!

Count me as one of the naive. It doesn't make sense logically, but WDW resorts seemed safer somehow. I guess because we all think they are occupied by other Disney loving, happy~go~lucky families. We don't want to think about reality while we are there. This is a good wake up call for me since I'll be there in 8 days. I always locked the door, but I have been guilty of leaving the slider unlocked.

Preditors love environments where everyone is "feeling the magic". People get relaxed and careless because they think everyone is a good & honest person like they are. It is important to be careful and take common sense precautions but not to let it ruin you time at such a wonderful place. Just get into the good habits of being careful and then you rarley need to think about anything bad happening.

Well, that can be true. The only time my grandfather had his wallet stollen was while he was watching and listening to the Pope.

I'm not sure if they have this at all the resorts but POR has safty deposit boxes available for no charge. It sure beats leaving valuables in your room.

I'm so sorry :guilty:

Blondie~ I love your Thanksgiving picture and "I love pumpkin pie" Very cute!!

That is scary to think about. We always lock the slider when we leave. I always make sure I put the other lock on the door when we are in the room too.

Honestly I am careful to see that the sliders are locked when we stay on the first or even second floor....but I thought DH was being a little over cautious when he made a point to double lock them on 12!!! Not anymore. In my wildest dreams I would never imagine anyone putting their child at such risk....but you never know anymore!!

My assumption was the kid was to get in the room and let Dad in from the hallway....but who knows maybe he had already trained the kid to get the valuables himself!!

So scary and sad! Guess it will be lock down for us on our next trip! Thanks for the F.Y.I. :sunny:

Thats just scary to think that someone would allow their kid to do something like that especially from that high up. I wonder what security did about it. It would be intresting to see what security said about it or if they went up to the floor above to talk to the people that were there.

Thanks for the warning. We were also on the 12th floor in January and I was feeling pretty safe.
