Yet another autograph thread ...

OK, I've been looking all around the Web at autograph book ideas, and I have to say ... there are a jillion different ways to go about this. It's a bit overwhelming, and I'm having trouble making up my mind what tack to take on this.

(which is OK for now, because our trip isn't until next March)

But, the Type A personality in me wants a plan of attack well ahead of time ... so ... looking for info from all you experienced with homemade autograph books, etc.

Do you make up a book in advance and have the characters sign it or just carry blank cardstock? Do you use a clipboard or a small spiral-bound album? How do you keep the characters from signing on the back of a page?

I don't think I want to pre-identify the autograph pages with stickers or stamps, as I don't use a lot of stickers or stamps in my layouts generally.

Are Sharpies scrapbook-friendly? Are Zig pens fat enough for character mitts to grasp?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions eventually ... but this will get me started.

Hi Heidi and welcome !! In the past I have always had my kids use the Disney autograph books but this trip in July we are trying our hand at our own books. I bought each child a 6x8 sprial bound book at AC Moore. My son's (age 8) is red and I decorated each page for him with borders and stickers. I have pages for characters like Minnie, MIckey, Goofy, Donald, Pluto and Chip & Dale - from past trips and our character meals planned I know we will see these guys alot. then for the rest of the album I did so many pages per day of where we will be so for our first day we are just arriving and not do any parks so I decorated with planes and travel stickers and will put picture of him on those pages. On day two we are heading to MGM so I designed the pages with an MGM feel (blues yellows some stickers of the hat) and knowing that we would hopefully see the Incredibles or Kermit and Piggy -- leaving lots of room in the middle of the pages for autograph on whoever we encounter. I have Bic perment markers to bring. I will try and scan them and post a link for you to see them.
Now for my daughters (age 11) book she decided to leave it plain till we get back and bring 3x5 rectangles of colored cardstock for the characters to sign and then she will scrap the autograph and picture on her page later after our trip. I think both will work out well . best of luck Michelle

But right now I'm leaning toward taking half-sheets of white or ivory cardstock on a clipboard that I can scrap later. Or ... if I can find a small spiral-bound pad of cardstock, that would work. Then, I can remove the pages later.

I think I want to be able to crop, mat and mount the autographs into my own book alongside the appropriate pictures.

Does Zig make a pen fat enough for character mitts? Or are Sharpies archival?

I had orginally thought i would want white but my pages are white so i thougth the colored would be nicer. I am sorry i don't know about the pens

I mostly used off white cardstock except for specific characters like Belle(pale yellow) and Aurora(pink). I also cut a few white. As for pens, I bought the four color BIC pen and it was big enough for the characters. This was especially fun when we saw the Power Rangers. I was able the get the Red, Green, and Blue Rangers in their colors.
I would definitely bring something hard to write on though. I couldn't find a small clipboard so I'm going to have DH make me something for our next trip.
