Yet Another AP Check In Question

My teenage DS and his friend are trying to convince the friend's Dad to take them to WDW this summer. The Kids are going to pay for the bulk of the trip and want to go as cheaply as possible. Only my DS will have an AP but the ressie, of course, will be in the Dad's name (kids are 16). My DS's name will be on the ressie - is that enough to get an AP discount? The kids really want to stay at ASSports and we are trying to think of ways to get a good rate there! And, don't feel too sorry for the Dad...this really great guy plans on indulging his golf and fishing passions as well as going to the parks with the kids!!! Anyone have an opinion on this AP question? We're just looking for feedback before we call for reservations....Thanks in advance!!

I think one of the new perks for AP holders this year is ability to make reservations for number(3?) of other people. The passholder must be present when they check in. Since your son is part of the group, I would think this would work for them. I don't have a copy of the Mickey Monitor, but maybe someone else can give you the details or supply the link for the online copy. American Express holders are also eligible for a discount at the Value and Moderate resorts. You might want to check the code page on this site or Mousesavers. I hope this helps(and hope I haven't misinformed you!)

I am not aware of any situation in which an AP room rate was denied at checkin to anyone as long as one room occupant had a valid AP. It used to be part of Disney's policy that the AP had to be for the person booking the room but that was years ago. Even then, I never heard of anyone being refused if the AP belonged to someone else in the room, even a child.

Your odds are only 50-50 that anyone will be asked to show the AP at checkin anyway. I wouldn't sweat it if I were you.

Neither the Contemporary or Grand Floridian asked to see our AP's at all. I'm sure they wouldn't have any problems. :)

My sister called and asked the CRO about Ap's just last week, she was told that the person who has the AP must be the same person as the person whose name is on the ressie, and she further went on to say that, for instance, if my sister has the AP and she wants to book a room for herself and another for me, both my room and hers must be in HER name. You can book up to 3 rooms with one AP.
