It's an over the stove kind so not cheap to replace. Does anyone have suggestions for good models and brand names?

Is it possible to get a temporary, counter top model? I think you can get one this time of year for really, really cheap. Then, take your time, do your research and when budget and time permits you can do it right, and with knowledge, thought and consideration, instead of being rushed into replacing something that is broken, cause you have no other microwave option....just a thought. Then, you can garage sale or donate the counter top oven on your timetable.

Otherwise, we have the GE Spacemaker. It's great, quiet, has the hood/fan. No problems with ours. :thumbsup2

I have a Whirlpool model that is pretty nice. I have only had her about 18 months or so.
Don't get something cheap because in the long run you won't be happy with your purchase.

If it's possible to get a temporary microwave until you save enough for the nicer over the stove kind, check out the WalMart black Friday ad. I think they have a .7 ft microwave for $14. No, it's not a permanent solution, but it might work until you save up the big bucks.

I think Lowes BF ad has a Samsung over the range model for $99. Not sure how good they are, but the price is right. I wish they had the color I need(I need bisque, only comes in white or black), because I'd get one now to have on hand when my GE over the range micorwave dies.

My advice would be to avoid Sears and the Kenmore Elite models. I have an over the oven microwave that is not even 4 years old. One of the sensors is out and has been for a long time. I cannot cook things over 4 minutes because steam really messes it up and it just stops. I was told to replace the sensor would not be cost effective so I just deal with it.

I have found that local appliance stores will match anyones price and they are much nicer to deal with.

Check Home Depot. I just saw a bunch of last years models on clearance. I don't need one now but I can bet that as soon as they sell out mine will break.

Sams Club had a stainles over the oven model for between $300-$400. My husband has been nagging me to replace ours because the turntable broke 5 years ago.......I am still shopping :) (Everything else on it works fine)

Me too, ours broke Friday, a 3yr old Jenn Air. I started it and it died. They are coming today to look at it, keeping my fingers crossed. This was on top of my HE washing machine breaking 2 weeks ago. Ughh:scared1:

I don't need a stainless steel model. White is good enough for me and they seem to run about $80 cheaper for the exact same model. I saw a GE Spacesaver for $150 or so online. I have to get DH to measure what we need exactly though.

So people like the GE?

Cheap countertop one is definitely out because my counter space is severely limited.

I have a GE and have had the magnatron tube go twice. The first one I got them to cover the labor after fighting with them about it, then the second time I had to pay. I won't buy GE again. Their customer service is the worst

That's too bad. Does anyone like their microwave? Mine was OK and it lasted for 7 years. It was a very sinple model with no bells and whistles.

My first GE spacemaker lasted 15 years. We replaced it 5 years ago when we re-did the kitchen with stainless steel. The magnatron went out last week. It cost me $165 to repair it. I probably should have replaced the whole oven but I just didn't want to hurry around researching info to buy a new one right now.
