I have been researching DVC diligently for about a year. Even went to a session on our cruise last year. Bought the Passporter DVC guide. I still have a question about which UY would best suit our needs. We travel predominantly late August, and anytime in September and October. It looks to me that April would be our best UY? Am I correct?

I personally think an August use year would be best for when you travel. I like to have my use year as close to when I travel as possible, without having it fall after any of my travel months. I find it leaves me with the most options for rescheduling, should I ever have to.

If the earliest month in the year you would travel is August, I would choose an August use year.

why do you think april would be best?

ideally, you always want to travel early in your UY...so an august UY looks great to me. also, you never want to travel in the last 3 months or so of your UY...so if you plan to travel in may/jun/july, august is less ideal.

UY has nothing to do with when you can call to book. UY is when you "use" the pts for stays...it really only becomes an issue if you need to cancel.

Crazy - I guess. To be honest - I can't remember why I even came up with April UY. I had some warped sense of logic surrounding it which I now don't know why. Everyone on here is so helpful.

I haven't seen the passporter book. Was curious how they explained UY.

I think that an August UY would be best for you. It gives you time to use your points if you have to cancel.

Personally, I would look for the best resale deal you can find - period. UY as already stated really only matters if you have to cancel a reservation.

In all our years of travel, that has never happened!

As presented August is clearly the best and Sept, Oct likely the worst. Second best is June then April. For your situation I see best UY worth at least a full year of points more than the worst UY. April and June are also still workable. In part it depends on how likely you are to cancel. If you can schedule vacations a full year out and there is little chance you'd have to change based on know situations, it isn't as important. If you don't know whether you actually get the vacation until later, you might have to change based on work situations or you have family members that are likely to cause you to cancel last minute; it is VERY important. Enough so that I'd pay SOME more or simply wait to find the right August UY.
