We rented DVC points, got YES tickets, and then paid for the dining plan. We spent almost exactly what it would have cost us at a mod with
free dining. So it was a really nice upgrade to be at a Deluxe property for the same amount.
There is no other way to get the dining plan with YES tickets. You could buy the minimum 2 days worth of tickets for each member of your family to qualify for free dining, but then you negate the savings on your YES tickets.
Your best bet would be to book with a room only discount and go out of pocket for meals. Or if you, like us, would rather stay in a Deluxe, rent the dvc points and add on the dining plan.
It's hard to say what will work best for you not knowing dates, resort category and the ages of family members. This is just what worked best for us.
