On the resale, do you buy the remaining years left out of the original 40? How'd that work and did you still feel you got a good deal?

There is no original number of years. The current DVC program ends for everybody in January 2042. If you buy a contract resale, it will continue to have that same end date.

Thanks PamOKW.
Another question: What's the theory behind all contracts ending in 2042? Will Disney offer extensions or start selling new contracts with new end years? Or is this a secret no one knows?

Rumours abound as to Disney offering extensions to the 2042 end date. But as for now, that is when the DVC magic ends!

I hope they offer extentions in 2042, I will only be 100 years old then!!!:D :) :) :) :bounce: :Pinkbounc

1) 2042 was 50-yrs from the first sales year.
2) Although there is talk of an extension, don't expect it.
3) I would think that WDW already has long term plans.
4) They might decide to re-offer the timeshares.
5) If they do, maybe existing owners could option a buy.

Like most Right to Use (RTU) properties, there was an original length of ownership which decreases as the years go by. For DVC it was 50 years ending 31 Jan, 2042. While there is the possibility of an extension, at this point I wouldn't expect it. Still with 39 years or so left, it's still longer than most RTU options available. I bought one in MX a couple of years ago that ends in 2033. At the time I had considered buying one that only had 6-7 years left.

Don't let the fact you've missed out on some fun and value deter you from what might be best for you and your family. Look at the program as it fits your needs at the present and proceed accordingly. How many times on this board have we heard "I look before and sure wish I'd have bought then".

4.)They might decide to re-offer the timeshares

Can you imagine what a point would cost in 2042???!!!! Points have gone up approximately $20 per point in the last 10 years. That would make a point cost about $120 per point!! Glad I bought them in '96! :p
