Yearly Termite Bond Inspection

I pay $120 a year to keep my termite bond. The guy called this morning to say he would be in my area and asked if he could come by and do our inspection. Well, when he came, I didn't hear or see him walking around the house. Granted, I was sitting in front of the computer. But there is a tube looking thing in the ground outside the window I'm sitting in front of that we always thought had to do with the termite bond. He didn't do anything to it. On the slip of paper he left in the door, it said no visible termites. What exactly do the inspectors look at/for when they come each year?
