I have a child who was born in 2000. He was a surprise pregnancy. He was our 3rd. We had 2 lovely children, and were not trying for a 3rd. God had other plans.

I was due in March, and remember the nurses in my Dr's office talking about how many births there were Dec-Jan because a lot of couples were trying for a year 2k baby. I thought is was funny, but didn't give it much thought.

This year, my 6yo entered 1st grade. I remember at the beginning of the school year reading in the paper how shocked some towns were with the amount of 1st graders they had. Still didn't think much about it, until I signed my son up for Religious Ed. (AKA CCD) The 1st grade is homeschooled. We had a parents meeting where we had to bring the child. I went through this 2 years ago with my DD. The church was 1/4 full of children with their parents. This year, I walk in to the church, and it is chock full!!!!!!

I could not believe it. It then occured to me, I think many, many people wanted a year 2K baby!

Do you have a 6yo? Have you noticed how much bigger their social groups are???

I have a first grader too. Not because I wanted a 2000 baby, just wanted a second child.

Yes there are alot of grade ones. And a lot are named Hannah. We have three in her class. :rotfl2: There are three grade one classes in the school down the street.

Our DD6 was the first child born in our county in the year 2000. We weren't trying to be first or to have a Y2K baby. That's the just the way it worked out. We had been trying for almost a year. I really haven't seen an increase in my child's class compared to others.

My twins were born in August of 2000, we weren't specifically trying for a Y2K baby, but just a baby period! They came after about 5 years of infertility!

I haven't noticed that their social groups are larger, but now that you mentioned it, I'll be looking for it.

I have a Y2K baby too. Just worked out that way. I was originally due on January 23rd but did not deliver until February4th.

We also seem to have so many 6 year olds in the area. My 6 year old has a much large social circle that my 10 and 13 year olds. I wonder if the Y2K really had a baby boom?

our DS6 was a surprise pregnancy too...he was due jan 12 but i guess he decided he was ready to be born on dec 20 1999. I noticed that the cubscout 1st grade group was huge.

your not going to believe this but a rock radio station in our area had a contest on which couple was able to have a baby closest to jan 1 2000. the radio station set up a drive in movie night were the couples went in their cars and during the 'date' tried to concieve their 2000 millieum baby!!!
the winner was going to get a college pre paid program paid for by the station.

My due date was 1-6-00. But she decided to hang out a bit and was born 1-14-00. We got married 1-1-99 and we wanted a baby for our anniversary.

Added My DD"s class has 28 kids. It is one of the biggest classes in recent years. Her school even had to turn kids away this year.

My son was born in July/2000. We did not plan for it in 2000, it just happened. :teeth:

DD is a Millenium Baby. She was born in April tho we weren't really trying for a Y2K baby, we had been married a year and it seemed the right time.

There are a lot of first graders. In our school, there are three 1st grade classes, about 70 kids and we are a fairly small geographic area. The other end of town is even worse, one school has 6 sections of first grade! :faint:

My son was due Jan. 27 but I didn't have him until Feb. 3. He started 1st grade this year too. I really don't think there are alot of kids the same age around here. His class has 20 kids and there are only 2 classes for 1st grade. We have 7 elementary schools though. My aunt, cousin and I all had sons within 5 weeks of each other.

What's really funny about this is I have a May 2000 baby and I honestly figured we would see that huge influx, etc...

It's not. Nothing is any different for my 6 year old as it is for my 9 year old. It's just the same as a normal class year.

So far we haven't run into any huge influx anywhere. Actually, there weren't enough Kindergarteners this year to have 2 full classes (we do 1/2 days -- so there are 2 mornings & 1 afternoon instead of 2 each) and those would have been the Sept. 2 - December 2000 babies.

My DD had 4 Kindergarten classes & 4 classes all through elementary. My DS-9 had 4 Kindergarten classes but starting in 3rd grade went down to only 3 classes since the teacher/child ratio can be larger. I guess we will see what happens when in a couple years when my 6 year old reaches 3rd grade but it won't go to 5 classes so it's not bigger than normal here.

I have 4 nieces that were born in 2000, now that you mention it...

I have a January 2000 baby! We were planning to have a second child sometime that year... and it just happened faster than we thought it would!

I have noticed an influx of kids in my DD6's class as compared to DD8's class. It was hard to find slots at the local pre-schools when she was younger. The pre-school my DD6 went to wound up adding a class her 3yo year because there was so much demand for it in our neighborhood.

The first grade class is currently the largest class in our K-5 elementary school. There are 12 sections of first grade this year. The school was completely unprepared last year for the size of their kindergarten class.

I also have a August 2000 baby. I didn't plan it. He was a OMG I'm pregnant what are we going to do baby. I was also married in 2000 didn't plan that either. We probably would have waited a few years but we are happy with our life.

We have a September 2000 baby, but I haven't noticed any significant different in numbers of kids with him. His kindergarden class is large, but his teacher's said it's not the largest class she's ever had, that it doesn't even crack her Top 5.
