For those of you that remember my post about a threatened boycott against American Girl by conservative extremists, I did what I said, showed my support and bought my niece one for Christmas. All I can say is HOLY MOLY those suckers are expensive!

Thank God my sister in law told me that my other niece wasn't into dolls. I bought her some of the books anyway, in addition to some neat tomboy stuff. But the doll? Googily moogily! Cha ching!

But what the heck, it's for my niece and I know she'll love it. Who wouldn't? I mean, it's carved out of gold nuggets right? :rotfl:

Yes, but Uncle Rick, you will be adored for years to come after this. What a great Uncle.

You're going back to Disney in two months?? (I'm jealous!) :teeth:

Are you??? When??? Maybe this time we can actually meet up. :)

Okay back to the subject at hand...yes they are quite expensive, and I think the threatened boycott is STUPID.

they're expensive and well made. My dd is 21. She got one when she was probably 8 that she still displays. You can get cheaper clothes and accesories now at target.

I wish I made more money, I'd buy one for each of my nieces, but I have 6 nieces! So they'll get the books.

And I wish I was going to WDW in 2 months too! Can I stowaway in your luggage?

Yep! Going back to WDW Jan 28 - Feb 4 and staying at POR. Yeah, we just got back from a long trip a couple of weeks ago. But I am determined to use as much of my AP as I can get.

Sadly, Joe won't be with me. Happily, I'll be hangin' with my buddy Mad4Mickeky! Woo hoo!

Totally understand - we went five times on our last AP!! Holding out til May for the next one. Have a fabu time!! :goodvibes

Well, I'd say that puts you in the lead for "Favorite Uncle of the Year" award. :worship:

Let me know if you ever feel the need to show your support for Tiffany's or Gucci, etc. I have the perfect person with whom you could ditch that merchandise. :teeth:

Denae

BTW - my girls each have a AG doll. They are well-made and absolutely beautiful.

You are a good uncle. I am sure your neice will love it.

I am always receiving their cataloge they are beautiful dolls. I really think someone is playing a cruel trick on me, knowing I have boys. :rotfl:

BTW, we will be at POR from Jan 26-30, maybe we will see you there.

I believe I remember Uncle Rick offering to buy ds10 one, as a playmate for his old RuPaul doll. :rolleyes1 You better work it, Girl! :teeth:

Didn't you know that is the real reason for the boycott???? It has nothing to do with the stated reasons, it is because now those parents have a good excuse for not spending the big bucks!!

Oh, yeah, those American Girl dolls are expensive. My DD is 1.5 and I've gotten around 3 of the catalogues in the mail this fall. How do these marketing people know? I mean, I've never ordered any AG stuff before. At any rate, my Mom wants to buy DD1.5 one of the AG baby dolls and I convinced her to put it off until next Christmas -- too much money for something that DD is likely to dunk in the potty (literally).

Your such a great uncle!!

I know what you mean, I made my contribution to them in the tune of $480 just a few weeks ago. My girls will be so happy! ;)

Are these the dolls that are made to "favor" the owner? Meaning will this doll look like your niece? I want one of those :)

I don't have a little girl yet to buy one of these dolls for, as soon as I do, I'll be spending the money for one, I'm sure.

I get the catalogs too and only have a boy!

Rick, your niece is going to love you. :sunny:

I bought my dd an imitation American Girl. Looks like it and wears the same clothes...but it was only $6.99. :teeth: She's only 4. She won't know the difference. ;)

What a great Uncle you are!! The proposed boycott pushed me towards buying a doll too, my little girl wanted Samantha, but I knew she would change her mind with the Felicity movie coming and I was right. So I am buying her Felicity.

The prices are holy moly high, but it's the only thing she asked for beside My Little Ponies. She actually takes really good care of her toys, so why not? :goodvibes

I did see the books at Costco last week if anyone is looking for a bit of a discount.

Hey Rick, when are you going to visit Disneyland?? Hit me up!
