Day 7
I'm a little sad to be leaving WDW today. I always feel that way at the end of our vacations here. We eat breakfast in the lounge and I had asked if the kids wanted to go over to AKL and have breakfast at Boma. No, just want to get over to Hard Rock Hotel. OK, no problem. Call a bellman and the valet. They load us up and finally we get to ride in one of the carts. The bellman reminds us that we are concierge guests for the rest of the day and are entitled to use the lounge even though we are checking out. Unbelievably, this was the nicest person I had encountered in my entire stay at the Polynesian other than at 'Ohanas. You would know it was when we were checking out. By the way, the spider was still there last time we looked. I also noticed as we were leaving that they were beginning to cut the grass. Good. I had commented everyday that the grass needed cutting. It needed cutting when we arrived and it needed cutting as we were leaving. The valet asks if we need directions and tells us to be sure and get there before 3:00 pm. It seems the traffic on Fridays get horrible around 3:00 pm. It's about 10:30 and you've got to be kidding.....traffic is almost at a standstill on I-4. Pretty soon we're moving and I comment that if it's this bad in the morning I'm glad we'll be there way before 3:00 pm. We check in at the Hard Rock and are told our room is not ready. Doesn't surprise me. This will be our fourth stay at the Hard Rock and we've never checked in and our room was ready. This time we're really excited though because our first night's stay is on the club level like we usually do but the next two nights are in the Graceland Suite!!! We can't wait. I had already booked a cabana for Friday at the pool anticipating not having a room yet plus the dive-in movie is on Friday and it's always good to have a cabana on that night. They give Andrew a blow up guitar and we head to the fitness room to check in to the cabana. Not a problem. But some good news, when you book the Graceland Suite a cabana comes with the room at no charge each day and there won't be a charge for Friday either. Great! Let's go to the cabana. Immediately upon entering the cabana a great guy named Ty comes over and brings a plate of fresh fruit and asks if he can get anything for us. Tells us about the complimentary drinks and water in the fridge and about how to call on the phone if we need anything. Good. Off to a great start. We decide instead of eating in our cabana we want to go over to the covered Beach Club and eat also by the pool. We have a good lunch, burger, quesadillas, turkey club sandwich, chicken fingers and I have a Blue Suede Shoes. (reaaaaallly good) The kids head to Islands of Adventure and Andrew and I are staying put in the cabana to lounge by the pool until our room get ready. OK, no problem. It's about 3:00 now. Still no call about the room and they had taken my cell phone number and said they would call when it gets ready. See, they have blocked a certain room for us: 7094 because it's right next door to the Graceland Suite and we're keeping that room too and just moving next door into the suite the next day and still have the adjoining room. I call, it's not ready. OK, no problem. The teens show up and want to know what going on with the room. Nothing, it's not ready. 4:00 pm check in. Not ready. 4:30. Not ready. OK. It's hot. We're going up to the lounge. They put out food at 5:00 and we can sit in the lounge and watch TV. I walk down the hall because I know what room they're putting us in and there's a couple standing outside that room having a fit because their key won't open the door. I quietly walk back to the lounge and sit down because now I know why our room isn't ready. They suddenly appear in the lounge talking about how tired they are and they need a place to lie down and their stuff is still in the room. The guy in the lounge explains and shows to them on the front of their room key that they were only registered in that room through today and that they should have checked out today by 11:00 am. He says they have decided to stay another night and they want to get into their room. The lounge guy explains that someone else(not knowing that it was us sitting right there listening to all of this) had a reservation for that room and that they would be glad to send them to the Portofino because the HRH was all booked up. He starts yelling and tells him to send the other people to the Portofino. The lounge guy is very polite and tries to control the situation. The guest continues to yell saying he's tired and his family is tired and they are not giving up this room and he wants to speak to a manager. They contact the manager and all of a sudden the guest looks at his wife who five minutes ago he was so concerned about and says, "Go pack up, we're moving." Just as happy as can be. Totally different attitude. All smiles. Seems the manager told him he would comp tonight for him at the Portofino. Now he's happy. But my room isn't ready. After they leave, I quietly walk up to the "lounge guy" who I learn is named Chris and is extremely professional, and say since that is our room they are still in, how long do you think it will be before we can get in our room? He calls me by name to see if it's really us and then tells me he'll get right on it. Please enjoy the lounge in the meantime. Another hour goes by and I'm thinking how long does it take to clean a room. Well I found out. I walked down the hall and they had the door to the room propped opened. It looked as if those people had had a major party in there. Drinks, cups, plates, food all over the place. They had two maids working as hard as they could. I can't believe some people. Why would you create such a mess for other people to have to clean up? I realize it's going to be a while so I ask if the Graceland Suite is available for that night also. YES, it is. They can put us in it right away. They take us down and the hall and our luggage is up faster than I've seen in my life. They'll call us when the other room is ready and by the way they're knocking $150 off the price of the other room for tonight. It was 7:00 pm before we got the other room. Into the Graceland Suite-------OH MY GOD------- Evan did not want to go back home. He fell in love with the bathroom. This place was unbelievable. Immediately the door bell(yes, door bell) rang and they were bringing in wine, cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, bottled water. Door bell rings again---fresh flowers.

I'm going to break the rest of this evening into part 2. It will take a while just to describe this place. I took a lot of pictures and I will be posting them later. We're leaving on a trip for this weekend so it will be Monday before I can finish this. I hope you're interested enough to tune in on Monday.

I have to hear about this suite! I'll be waiting for part 2.:sunny:
