Always happy to help a fellow Massachusetts resident (sorry, but since I've only been here 6 years I don't know what we are called, Yankees, I suppose, but that's also the baseball club in the Bronx. How about overtaxed, overstressed, wet and cold, New Englanders?).
The water view rooms at both the BWI and YC are lovely. At the Boardwalk Inn, you have activity under your feet, and in the distance across the lake the quiet and dignity of the YC. At the YC, it's quiet under your feet, but the lights and activity across the lake on the Boardwalk are a magnet to the eye.
The rooms are the same size, and the same size as the Garden View rooms in both resorts. You get 2 queens and a day bed. The walk from the lobby is okay at the BWI, but can be a significant hike at the YC. The Boardwalk lobby is brighter, and the restaurant options at the Boardwalk are more varied and a short walk from your room.
All things equal, I prefer the Boardwalk Inn, as I enjoy sitting on the deck, perhaps reading, perhaps sharing a bottle of wine with my wife, and feeling the activity just below me. So I guess the only real difference is the tranquility at the YC vs. the busy-ness at the BWI.
Also, the BWI is only a bit noisy in the evening. In the morning and during the day it's pretty quiet as well. When you close the deck doors to sleep, it's quiet (unless you are on the absolute end above the ESPN Club - beware, even if you love sports and games, don't take a room there, it's noisy until closing - 1 am or so, as the noise comes up the ventilation system, staying just a few room down from the club is very quiet).
Is it worth the price difference? A tough question. About 1/2 the time I'm there, I go for the water view, and 1/2 the time I choose the Garden View. Good luck with your choice Randy. If you're there in early January, maybe our paths will cross. Craig
