DH and I decided to DRIVE to WDW last minute for our anniversary 2/14 - 2/19!!! We've done the Calif. Grille thing with the fireworks which is wonderful, but sometimes I hate to try and "recreate" a moment that was so perfect...it never works.

We are going without kids for this trip, so it gives us a chance to try some of the more adult places...

Some places we've been dying to try are:

-Artist Point
-Jiko
-Narcoosees
-Flying Fish (with all the times we've been to BW, you'd think we would have been here!!!)
-San Angel (looks like atmosphere would be romantic)
-Shulas (is it romantic, Eeyore-Mitch? I know you're the expert...)
-Yachtsman

Other romantic type places we have been to are:
-Calif. Grille as mentioned
-Le Cellier
-Citricos

Any advice would be helpful...

Thanks

How about Palio's in the Swan Resort? The food is excellent, and it's a very nice atmosphere!:):):)

My husband loves the steaks at Shula's. I go for the chocolate souffle which is fantastic and worth the otherwise limited menu (I'm not big on steak); however, I would not say that Shula's is romantic - big on football atmosphere and the menu is written on an actually football. Not really my idea of romance :).

I definitely agree with the Palio suggestion - I went on my fall trip last year, and loved it!! Dimly lit, strolling piano player, very good food and service - my meal wasn't a romantic one (I was with my aunt), but the ambiance was there in spades! :)

Any of the spots you mentioned would do nicely--adding Palio, certainly. And I'd also add Bistro D' paris in Epcot. Lots less crowded than it's downstairs cousin Chef's D France. If this is any help to you, in May we're going to:
Artist Point
Jiko
Narcoosee's
Flying Fish
Bistro

It's so funny because after I hit the "submit" button I remembered that we have also had dinner at Palio...

Though we were with the kids, which may have affected the "romantic" aspect, we were a bit disappointed with our meal. This might have been because our waiter was a bit of an airhead...I told him I wasn't that hungry and inquired about getting two appetizers instead of an entree...he told me the eggplant was very tiny ("like the size of a cigar") and the gnocci had "like three small gnocci" in the appetizer portion. So he talked me into the pizza, which from the way he described it I thought it would be like the Calif. Grille flatbreads...it was NOT. It was HUGE and doughy, I ate like 1 slice...The eppplant ended up being the size of an entree too...

The eggplant was devine however, and the mandoline player was charming...I may go back sometime...but first I'd like to try someplace new...

Thanks for the suggestion though...

As to Victoria and Alberts...I haven't decided. I think we may be looking for a little more "casual elegance" like citricos...at least for this trip.

Our anniversary is Feb. 16. (18 years) When is yours? We thought about taking a quick trip at the end of Feb. to celebrate ours but I'm afraid I still might be queasy from morning sickness.
Anyway, if you decide to go to San Angel check and see if Tuesday the 18th you can have dinner there. (After 6 pm) Unless things have changed that has always been the night the Mariachi band played. Also, when you check in tell the CM you'll wait for a table by te river. Have fun!!

Don't overlook Palio at the Swan. It's Italian and VERY romantic. It's dim lighting and wonderful food. Try doing a search for Palio during a non-busy board time when search is fuctioning.

I think Jiko is a nice romantic restaurant. It's so warm and cozy in there! The dim color changing lights, warmth of the lodge. great menu, extensive wine list too.
As much as I love FF, I don't think it's very romantic. i think V7A's is over rated.
San angel is too loud & crowded, not very romantic IMO.
And Palio, well, I just had a horrible meal in there and it's also very loud.
I have heard great things about Artist Point but have never been there.
Have a great time wherever you choose!

Boy...it is difficult to decide...maybe more than one then!!

I think at the top of the list is now Artist Point and Jiko.

Can anyone tell us more about Yachtsman?

... you mentioned, but I have been to Yachtsman's Steakhouse, which I found just so-so. I'd heard lots of great things about it, but was disappointed in both the quality of the food and service. I was actually sick after I ate there... Ugh! I also didn't find it particularly romantic -- it has a pretty bland atmosphere, imo.
I also wouldn't recommend Flying Fish -- it's waaaaayyyyy too loud, has very high prices, just ok food and inconsistent service -- or Narcoosee's, whose food was very average and service pretty substandard.

I have always enjoyed Artist's Point, and it's both quiet and fairly romantic. Take a look at the menu before you go to make sure they have the type of cuisine you'd be interested in, however. I've never been to Jiko, so I can't comment on that.

My absolute favorite restaurant is one you've already been to -- California Grill. I have been there three times now and have thoroughly enjoyed every meal. Unfortunately, I thought it might be good to try out another restaurant with a view of the MK fireworks during our last trip, so we went to Narcoosee's... Won't ever make that mistake again! If you love a place, return to it. It may not be the same experience each time, but good food and service are not an easy thing to find at WDW, imo!!! :)

One place I've wanted to try is Citricos. Having had less-than-stellar experiences at 2 other GF restaurants, however, I am nervous to try this one!! How did you like it when you ate there? Did you have your kiddies with you or was it just you and DH? Any feedback on this restaurant would be appreciated!

Take care,
Sarah

First thanks for your insights...I think we will go to CG and either Jiko or Artist Point...

I LOVED Citricos. Here is my review from this past July. I also include my review of the Neverland Club...we dropped the kids there for an "adults only" night...

Neverland Club, kids dinner
Dropped the kids at NC around 5:45pm. They have a buffet there with pizza, chicken nuggets, french fries, mac & cheese and soda. I told my kids they could eat whatever and however much they wanted as this was "their night". They were even more excited as we let them have Coke (which due to caffeine is rarely allowed). If you are looking for a place for the kids to spend a few hours while you are at a fancy dinner or just need a little time alone, this is the place! They have videos games and movies and a craft center and more. DD make like 6 projects for us, and DS was in heaven on those free video machines!!! We were given a beeper and felt totally safe leaving them here.
Overall rating: 9 (for food and atmosphere and activities for kids)

Citricos, dinner
I have to say it was posts on the DIS that enticed me to try this place (esp. Uncleromulus' post on the pork). I was NOT disappointed. We ate like kings and queens this night, and I was glad I hadn't eaten much all day. First off however, I noticed that the place was VERY empty. I was surprised by this, but even more so that of ALL the tables in the restaurant, the hostess sat us right in the middle of two large tables of families with small children. One of these tables in particular had a screaming baby and two misbehaving children who were running around the table. DH and I quietly and discreetly requested to be moved. We too take our children to places like California Grille etc. but they are 5 and 7 and we are very strict with table manners esp. in nice restaurants and would never tolerate running around the restaurant or bad behavior like I've seen some parents allow their children to do. This particular evening was for me and my husband, after 10 days at this point of catering to the children, we needed a "time out" ourselves. I could not relax with all the noise. Despite that we were very discreet with our request, the mother of the screaming children made a nasty, unnecessary comment to us something like we hate children or something which is entirely untrue. This was the only glitch of the evening, and DH and I after a few minutes were laughing about it.

The food...I had the crabcake to start and this was just heaven. It was presented differently than any crabcake I've ever had. It was shaped more like..uh...an eggroll (sorry that's all I could think of) and had a crispy coating and a delicious sauce. DH started with an onion tart...it had sweet carmelized onions in it and a flakey crust. DH wanted to also try the lobster bisque, so the server (who was so attentive, funny and wonderful!!) brought us out a portion and split it for us. The only way I could describe this soup is like DESSERT, creamy, sweet, and sinful, with chunks of maine lobster. We both had the arugula and proscuitto salad which I assume was Parma Proscuitto and had shavings of parmesan reggiano in it. Boy, those Italians sure know how to do it. As my entree I had the Honey Paprika Pork Tenderloin with cherry-currant compote. I did have to send it back once as it was underdone, but they made me a new one. This was fantastic, sweet, tender meat, and the subtle sourness of the compote complemented it perfectly. DH had the veal shank which was so tender and flakey it was falling off the bone. He enjoyed this very much. As if we didn't eat enough...we split the chocolate banana torte, which was warm and gooey with chucks of banana and served with coffee ice cream and a tower of gourmet chocolate. PURE HEAVEN!!! We were also fortunate enough to be able to chat extensively with the chef, who visited every table. He was so gracious and friendly, I truely enjoyed his company. It was an enchanting evening and I would come back here again and again.
Overall rating: 9 1/2 (almost perfect evening, a must-do for anyone, IMO).

SORRY SO LONG, but hope it helped...

Palio or Bistro de Paris - great food, great service and great atmosphere.

Enjoy and Congrats!!!!!

I love the food at Yachtsman Steakhouse but it isn't romantic. On eword of advice make your PS as soon as possible...I had trouble getting a ressie for Feb.15th because it's Valentine's weekend. That is home in NY State I can't imagine WDW!!!

Our anniversary is also February 16 18 years. Won't be able to be at WDW for it but might celebrate it later when we're there in June.
