Yard sales in the rain?

Planning on doing my first yard sale this weekend as part of our community wide sale...nearly 100 homes in our small town are doing it. Problem is that at best, it will be threatening to rain all day, at worst, it could be a complete washout. Obviously, if it is t-storming, I won't even put stuff out since I don't have a way to keep stuff protected. Do people still go shopping when the weather is just possibly bad? We're 16 days from leaving for Florida, so I could use this extra cash, but I don't want to be struggling with on and off rain all day if no one is going to be out shopping...now if people are shopping, then I'll just deal.

I saw some one recently with an "indoor garage" sale. She put a few pieces outside to show which house, and put the rest in the front room. It's been overcasted in the morning hours with the rain in the evening.

Do you have ANY covered areas outside?? Do you have a giant tree that maybe you could hang a tarp across? A covered porch? There might be people willing to take a chance in the rain, but wouldn't browse in the rain.

Here in Oregon, we do everything in the rain!

With over 100 houses, there will be customers. Things will need to be undercover though, either inside a garage or under something like a camping gazebo.

Have fun!

If you can pull it off in the rain, advertise as "rain or shine!" (even on the sign out frunt) and it should help :beach:

We've been known to go yard saleing in cloudy weather. Even light rain.

I think you'll be fine as long as you can find a way to cover things (tarps or in a garage). Also, I don't know if you have one...but those pop-up canopies that everyone seems to have now-a-days are wonderful. But...if you don't have one...bungee cords and tarps are pretty in-expensive. :D

Good luck. And happy selling!

I still go out if it's raining. As long as it's not to horrible I'm happy, because you tend to get really great deals on rainy days.

Good luck with the weather. A yard sale is a ton of work to set up.

Here is wishing sunny skys to you.

Around here, most of the sales are cancelled if it's rainy, so we don't even bother driving out unless a sale we are particularly interested in is advertised as "indoors" or "rain or shine".

Do you have a garage? If so, I'd set up in the garage. You can advertise rain-or-shine and, if it's raining, just keep an eye out for when cars pull up.

If it does rain, you could leave everything set up and have a second-chance sale the next week. (Depending on local laws, you may have to take signs down.)

Our sub is doing the same thing this weekend (actually it started today)...we just set up in the garage. It's pretty cold and wet but, there has been a few customers. I'm in MI too...
