Have a question and would appreciate any and all feed back. My MIL is having her yearly yard sale this weekend. I have a BUNCH of old CK and MM
magazines that I thought about putting in the sale. I have been through the mags and pulled out LOs I liked. What do you think is a fair price to ask for these mags? Some have 4 or 5 pages pulled out, some only 1, some none. I was thinking .50 or .75 per magazine. Is that too much? I also have several sheets of 8 x 10 cardstock that I know I won't use....some I've had for 3 or 4 yrs and haven't used yet! What would be a fair price for this? Is .5 too much in a yard sale or should I pkg it up and sell in bundles?

It just drives me crazy to have what I think is a very fair and reasonable price on an item and then someone come along and try to talk me down on it. I'll come down some but not much. For example, I have a 4 pc pant suit that belonged to my youngest daughter that is now 5. It's a 3T, Baby Gap pair of black pants, pair of leopard print pants, brown sweater w/faux fur collar and matching faux leopard print hat. It is SOOOO cute. My cousin bought it for her little girl and paid over $75 for the outfit, she only wore it once or twice and then my daughter only wore it 2 or 3 times. In a consignment sell I had $40 on it but it never sold. Then in a yard sale I put $30 on it. Now I have dropped it to $25. When I had priced at $30 in the yard sale, I was offered $10 for it but just couldn't let it go for that. Felt like I was giving it away. Maybe I expect too much? I know technically people come to yard sales for bargains and most people that have them are just trying to get rid of things but I feel I have some very nice baby items and they shouldn't be given away.

Thoughts & comments are welcome.

In my view - at a yard sale $10 was a fair price for the outfit. If you want something approaching half of what it cost new, my suggestion would be to consign it at a nice shop.

If you really want to get rid of the paper group it into a gallon size zip lock bag with a piece of cardboard to keep it flat and sell it that way - maybe 10 sheets in a bag for a dollar. If people paw through a box of it to find a few sheets for 5 cents, in just a short time, it will be too tattered to sell even for that price and, at 5 cents a sheet it's hardly worth your time.

If you put your mags in a box marked a 50 cents dollar each and they sell, fine, if they don't you can always lower your price, or offer a bargain like $10 for 15 or 25 of them depending on what you started with for a price.

I think the question is - do you want to move your stuff or make what you consider a fair price. I've had several $1500 yard sales, but I wanted stuff OUT of my house and considered any cash made as profit.

For stuff like the 4pc outfit, I'd try ebay first. When people go to yard sales, they're looking for a bargain, when people go to ebay, they're looking for deals, but not necessarily a bargain!

As for your scrapbook stuff. Unless you find a crafter or a scrapbooker, people won't pay what you're asking for it. I'd save it in the hope that you can use it at some point.

I'd try to ebay both items you mentioned. Some of the CM stuff goes for what I think are crazy prices on ebay -- more than you could buy from a CMC.

I have had good luck w/consignment sales too. The problem with those though can be the % and any fees. There is one I registered for early on when the group first started them so I don't have to pay the $5 registration fee. I also get 70% which is great.

I would definitely try to sell the paper and magazines at a yard sale. I know that I have gone to yard sales looking for scrapbooking stuff and would have loved to find paper. I agree with the other poster about putting it into Ziploc bags and selling it in bundles (all Christmas papers, all baby papers, etc.) so that it doesn't get messed up.

I would try to sell the higher-end baby and kids clothes on Ebay. When people come to yard sales, they want cheap cheap cheap prices and you probably won't get what you would like to out of them.

Good luck! :teeth:
