Yard Sale PRos..what is book scanning?

My dad resells books, and uses a scanner.

He was laid off from his factory job many years ago when the company moved everything over to China.

So, he started a used book online store. He gets books from Goodwill where they actually throw a ton of books away in their dumpster, so he gets them from there once a week. Plus book sales, garage sales, estate sales, etc. He is never rude or hogging books. Most book sales have rules in place to keep things fair.

Now, dd is going to work for him this summer to help him with pulling books for shipment, as his inventory is huge. I think it's a great way to contribute to the economy as well as prevent tons of books going to the landfill!! Plus, he isn't on unemployment :)

Yes, he spends alot of money in gas, although he tries to carpool with other booksellers whenever possible.

Thank you for the android app!!! DH put it on his phone, and we scanned the books that had bar codes. There were a few of MILs needlepoint books that did not have bar codes, so we looked those up on Amazon. One of her books was listed at $161 :scared1: I'm guessing this is the type of book that the scanners would be looking for. Of course, you'd actually have to find someone to buy it at that price to make your money back. :rolleyes:

I believe it with out-of-print craft books. Several years ago, used copies of the "Annie's Attic Prize-Winning Afghan Book" was going upwards of $50-60 a book. Out of nowhere, people saw the first prize winning afghan, the Cathedral Rose Window afghan, and wanted to crochet it. But by that time, the book was out of print for several years. The only way to legally obtain a copy of the pattern was to buy a second hand book.

After a copy of years, Annie's Attic started selling copies of the pattern for $6.95.

I've never heard of this before! I agree, if it was a rude person, I would have a prob with them at my yard sale, but otherwise, I want to get rid of the books, and if they can make some money off of it, so be it! I am not set up to resell these books at a bigger price.

I am going to have to check out the price of some of my old books now!

:goodvibes

Well, I had my yard sale this morning. Not a book scanner person in sight....only sold 7 or so books. But, DH has a cool app to play with now!!! It was hotter than Hades - 102º. We started setting up at 6:00 am and my sister sold the first item at 6:15. We had a steady stream of people until 12:15 or so. We started packing up at 12:30, and only had 1 person stop by. It was a successful sale for both my sister and I. Thanks for all the great tips!!!

:thanks::disrocks:
