Yard of Beer

They used to have one at Rose and Crown. Not sure if they still do. But they have one at Whispering Canyon Cafe. I believe it's 11 bucks, and it's bud light or miller light.

They no longer have it at Rose & Crown. There is a plastic beer mug sold, but no discounts on refills.

No more yard. I miss it terribly.

My DH is disappointed. He never got around to getting one on previous trips and was making it his goal to get one this trip. Any recommendations for a good beer in WS? We do have a Rose & Crown dinner ADR one evening.

For a long time they had the Yard of Beer at Narcoossees. But it's been gone for a # of years now.

The Story of the Yard:

1) Used to sell at several locations, most notably R&C.
2) A tall, slender tube of froth.
. . . sometimes just the vessel
. . . sometimes with a neck sling
. . . sometimes with a souvenir stand
3) Refills were
. . . greatly discounted on a per-ounce beer price
. . . on occasions, free
4) People could walk around drinking them.

5) After a while, too many people
. . . bought them
. . . walked around drinking them
. . . returned to refill them
. . . continued drinking
. . . became sloshed
. . . were rude or nasty to other guests and CM's

6) WDW finally outlawed them
. . . first, they sold them, but would not refill at discount
. . . then, they sold them, but would not refill at all
. . . then, they finally stopped selling them
7) Official Reason for no more yards was "too unsanitary to refill"
. . . must take a "dirty" container behind the bar
. . . must place a "dirty" container under a dispensing spout

NOTE: Of course, the real reason was to stop the drunks who could
get that way relatively cheaply (compared to other WDW prices). But,
the official reason dies, because at other locations, drink containers
are presented to a dispensing spout that could spread germs from
one guest's glass to another guest's glass. ESPECIALLY at self-serve
soft drink fountains.

My husband used to love drinking his "yard around the yard" as he called it. He didn't try to get drunk, though, and only refilled it once. But back then, it wasn't Bud Light or Miller Light. I can't remember what it was but it was imported and he really liked it.

I'm not a beer drinker anymore. (I did major in beer drinking in college though. :rotfl2:).
I'll just stick with the margaritas from Mexico or a small glass (plastic of course) of ice wine from Germany.

Ooo, love the margaritas and the ice wine sounds interesting. Where in Germany can you get that?

I remember getting one at 50's Prime Time Cafe. I also enjoyed one at the R&C filled with Stella's. I've slowed down lately, so by the bottle will be just fine.:thumbsup2
