Y'all cross your fingers for me

After 6 months on disability I finally feel well enough to take a part time job. I've been a nurse for 32 years and I can no longer work in a hospital due the the extreme stress. So I've applied for a job doing pediatric home health. I don't know if it will be a good fit, but I have an interview tomorrow. I have about 13 years of experience in NICU/PICU, but I've been away from the bedside for 9 years. The company is willing to send me to a refresher course (trachs/vents/Gts.) I was once very comfortable with this stuff, but my skills are rusty.

So cross your fingers that I will ask all the right questions and know whether this is a good move for me.

I'm a home health nurse and I absolutely love it. But be prepared for MASSIVE amounts of paperwork. Gotta learn to take the good with the bad I guess. Good luck!

ooohhh...I remember when you stopped working. You were concerned that you'd never be able to work again as a nurse? (am I remembering correctly?)

You will do great, it is like getting back on a bike! I am a respiratory therapist and we rotate through Adult and Pedi ICU's and medical vs surgical ICUs in the hospital I work at... it is hard to be out of an area for a while but once you get your feet wet, it all comes back. Besides, current pratices, guidelines, protocols, policies, meds, treatment modalities etc. change all the time in medicine (hence why they call it "practicing" medicine ) so once you have the basics down (as you do) you are essentially learning new stuff all the time. It is great that they are offering you a refresher, that will really help to boost your confidence and get up up to date on current practices.
