Does anyone have any pictures/reviews of their food at Yak & Yeti?

DH & I have never eaten here before. We're thinking about cancelling our Jiko reservation & are looking for something to replace it with.

Thanks for your help!

It's no Jiko. We've eaten at the Yak twice and haven't been impressed although most Dissers like it.

We really like it. It is where we always eat lunch on our AK day. I wouldn't go out of the way too much for it though.

:) If you are already going to be at AK that day I think it is a good choice. It was good food, good service but we have to admit we do have other favorites. For instance when I asked where DH wanted to eat for AK EMH he picked Rainforest Cafe. I would go there again becasue I do think it is a good choice for that park. Many folks also really like Flame Tree BBQ, too. We have never eaten at Jiko so I cannot compare the two.

DH just walk through and asked me what I was doing so I told him about this thread. He said, "that is exactly what it is, yak and yeti". :rotfl: Evidently I have a more favorable memory of eating there. We ate there last Oct/Nov and I was pleased since it was pretty good and served our purpose.

I ate there in Nov 2008. I absolutely loved it and it was my first thought when jotting down ADRS for my next trip.

I dont have pictures but I can tell you what I got and some others at my table, who all loved their meals.

I got pot stickers for an app. Delicious with the sauce they give (and without!). 3 people in my party got a bowl of mussels. Each bowl had about 20 and they were all great. I forget what DH got, but Im sure it was good.

I got Bourbon Chicken for an entree. It was good..not great. I think what I didnt like is the tempura batter on the chicken. I like tempura for, say, chicken fingers, but dont when mixed with veggies and bourbon sauce...but it was decent. My mother got the steak and shrimp. She eats like a bird and was so full from the mussels that she hardly touched hers. I think she took a bite of shrimp and that was it. I dont know what possessed me, but I reached over and took a bite of her steak..OMG...fabulous! I ate all of it! Tender, great seasoning/flavor YUMMY! Def for me on my next trip. My son got the ribs, and I think hubby did too. They both ate everything on their plates. Another son got Sweet and Sour Chicken..again, he didnt like the tempura part and it was already under the sauce. But he ate it.

For dessert, I got the sorbet trio. Delicious, especially the mango. Some people at my table got the wontons and thought they were great. Hubby got the cheesecake..normal good cheesecake! All in all it was really really good.

We arrived at 2:30, seated at 2:45ish and rolled out of there at 4:30. We had enough time to get back to the resort, shower, change clothes and head to Epcot for our 6:55 dinner at Le Cellier!!! Big Mistake. Y & Y portions were so big, none of us could eat at Le Cellier.

I'm curious if most of those who didn't like it normally like that cuisine or if this is new to them. That makes a big difference in whether their review applies to you or not. I looked at the menu and thought it sounded delicious, but I also know I love this cuisine.

If you love the cuisine, you will be disappointed. Think a notch below PF Changs. I had the pho on one visit and it was inedible. I love pho so was very disappointed. The next time I had Lo Mein and it had no taste whatsoever.

We ate there last week and it was our second favourite meal so far at WDW (1st was Jiko) along with Boma breakfast.

We absolutely loved the food, it was all delicious and we are going again next week.

Here are some photos, the portions are big too.

Lettuce Cups (not as good as PF Changs but still yummy)

That pic of the honey chicken made my mouth water!! We loved Y&Y! We got a table on the second floor next to the window. Neat watching the people down on the ground. It was great food, great scenary and had the best waitress in the world. Couldnt have been more pleased with this place.

Lunch at ADR 12:30pm on Oct. 30, 2009. We were seated immediately and it was pure heaven to sip on a draft Safari Amber Ale after riding Kali River Rapids 3 times in a row on a hot day.... (we put on dry clothes 1st). DS4 was not in a mood to sit in a restaurant and was being difficult.... He enjoyed walking around the restaurant and making funny faces in front of the statues in the restaurant for my camera.

On the deluxe DDP, appetizers were included. The lettuce cups and seared ahi tuna were delicious! I had the crispy mahi mahi -- also delicious. DW had the sweet and sour chicken which she liked but it was not overwhelmingly yummy like the appetizers and my dish. I've heard in reviews that the ordinary dishes (like sweet and sour chicken) are just... well... ordinary.... so order something else. For dessert, the fried wontons with skewered pinapple was delicious.

Service was great! We are definitely returning on our upcoming trip. I might try the Malaysian seafood curry if it's on the menu.

If you are between Jiko and Yak & Yeti, I would definitely stick with Jiko. However, that being said- Yak & Yeti was also high on our list of favorite places this past trip (just got back this week). Definitely the best inside the park option that we have tried!

We did it for lunch on a Wednesday, were seated right at our ressie time. The AC was definitely working in there! DH ordered the duck with anandapur glaze, and I had the shaoxing steak & shrimp. Both were excellent choices. DH had duck on multiple occasions throughout this trip and thought this one had the most flavor. For dessert, we had the wontons and mango pie- again both were excellent. Service was prompt, and friendly (but would you really expect anything else from Disney?)

Jiko is signature so of course it should be better. And it is! But I really like Yak and Yeti also. My problem is that I like Flame Tree BBQ so much I eat there instead of Y&Y. Since Animal Kingdom isn't open late I don't get a chance to eat at both.

Thanks for the pictures! We still can't make up our minds. It might come down to what we are hungry for at the time. Both sound like good choices.

We had the crunchy mahi mahi and enjoyed it. Best of all, we asked to be seated with a view of the parade and didn't have to jockey for position for a good view. We had a nice lunch while watching the parade without being elbowed by anyone. :thumbsup2

I have not eaten at Jiko... sounds like there is no comparison...

DS18 and I ate at Y&Y in May 2010....

I agree with PP.... as far as food taste, if PF Changs is a "10" then Y&Y Is a "7.5"....

HOWEVER... I LOVED the atmosphere at Y&Y... (and of course the location:lmao:) so I would eat there again...

DS18 and I ordered the Lettuce Wraps (YUM but no PFChangs), Ahi Tuna (The BEST) and Tempura Fried Green Beans....(not the 'tempura' style that I prefer)

I had planned to eat just appy's for my lunch...

DS got the Stir-Fried Beef and Broccoli - flank steak, broccoli, brown sauce $17.99... I tried it and it was Delicious !

I LOVED the decor and eating on the second floor where the view was great even though we weren't by the window... I even walked around the restaurant (DS did as well) just to see the artifacts....

We really enjoyed it and would eat there again...

Hugs,
Mary

There is another thread going right now comparing Y&Y to Tusker House. I can't post the link 'cause I am still a newbie.

We like the food at Y&Y, but I wouldn't compare it to Jiko. If you are in AK, I think it is the best place to eat. Would I go into AK ONLY to eat there, probably not. But, we've never been unhappy after eating there. We've always had superb service there, too!

We've had several items on the menu...
Apps:
seared tuna - DH favorite
pot stickers
dim sum - my favorite
green beans
lettuce cups
house salad

entrees (that I can remember):
miso salmon
duck - my favoite
mahi mahi - DH favorite
sweet & sour chicken

dessert (tasty, but not to die for):
fried wontons
cheesecake
sorbets
chocolate cake

Hope that helps!

We have eaten and enjoyed dining at both Jiko and Yak and Yeti. I would not make a special trip to AK to dine in Y&Y but when we are there, that is where we go. Like previous posters have said, Jiko is a signature restaurant so the atmosphere, food and experience are different but we do enjoy both restaurants.
