We ate lunch at the Yak & Yeti yesterday.

While the food was adequate and well-prepared (a tad on the spicy side), there must have been a competition on which server could hustle you out of the place in the shortest possible time.

Our server was quick to appear and stood there waiting for our orders right after he gave us the menus and stood there while we read the menu. Drinks appeared fairly quickly, and the lunch appeared within a reasonable time. One of us had to take a quick trip to the washroom after the food was delivered. The server walked up and picked up the plate that was left, and I (less-than) politely asked what he was doing. He replied that he though that the plate was finished. I told him to put it back on the table and leave. I'd have to say that was approximately half way through the meal.

Twice after he came back to ask if we were finished while we were still eating. He also insisted on us ordering our dessert before we were done.

At this point, we realized that he had asked us for our room key at the start of the meal and hadn't returned it to us. Now at this point, I'm getting a bit distressed about the treatment and asked him for the key back. He said they return the keys at the end of the meal. I said I don't think so, please return it. He never did.

At the end of the meal, he brought two bills, both with zero balances. I asked for the details of the meal, and he replied that he couldn't do that because they weren't part of the Disney system. I said, you mean you can't tell me the details of what we ordered? He replied that's correct.

At this point, we just threw a bill on the table and got up and walked out.

If it hadn't been for our server, it would have been a really interesting meal.

Leaving for home today.

What a very un-Disney experience! I wonder what was going on? You said the other servers were behaving the same way???

I think we had the same server. We had dinner there a few weeks ago, and it was before Free Dining so it really wasn't that busy, but he was also trying to hurry us up.

And when it came to the bill, he hand wrote the bill and total, and of course not forgetting the suggested tip. It was incorrect and it didn't have an itemized listing of what we ordered, but we decided not to bother because we were in a hurry. I had already a calculation in my head about what the total should be (yes, I know, there's something seriously wrong with me:lmao: ). So I gave him a tip based on my calculations. (By the way, my husband did use his calculator to make sure, and I was correct.) I don't know if he knew or purposely gave me a much higher total, or he made an honest mistake in the calculation. That's the problem, I never trust the totals especially handwritten ones without any details. Either way, he got the tip he deserved, whether he believed it or not. (By the way, we were on the DDP, so the only money that exchanged hands is the tip, if we were not on DDP, I would make them itemize everything since I would be paying cash for it.)

I know I should have brought it up, but we were in such a rush and I didn't find it important enough to deal with it. I guess to me, if he was surprised about the difference in tip, he should learn to be more careful or less deceiving (whichever case it was). I did somewhat regret giving him 18% of the correct total since he wasn't that great of a server. But at least he got our orders correct.

Had that on my places to eat list when we are there next month, I will now scratch it off.

Is this something new, them taking your resort ID card at the start of the meal and not returning it till the end? Were you on the DDP? Still, something doesn't seem right. They tell you to never leave your credit card out of your sight for very good reason, and your resort ID card is the same thing. I would email Disney about this, give them the date and time and see what they say.....could be some illegal activity going on?

Sorry for the bad experience.

We had dinner there in mid-August and we didn't get that feeling at all. We had a great meal, great server, and would go back in a second.

To answer a couple of the questions, 1) yes, we were on the DDP. 2) If there were anything illegal going on they would have trouble on our room key. We usually put cash down on the room because I really don't like Disney having access to our credit cards any time they feel like it. We charge everything to the room, and monitor the amount of cash leftover fairly closely; we actually do this to monitor what we're spending on what.

We were talking about it on the plane home and one of the more interesting bits of information that the server imparted was that he admitted that they weren't part of Disney and they didn't have the same systems as Disney. Now I can understand Disney not giving them access to their computer system, but the server couldn't even do a simple function like re-printing our order... if we wanted to charge to our room, he would have done it, but there wouldn't have been a service slip to sign.

As it was we were less than thrilled with the service and didn't tip the 'suggested' amount.

And, when we were talking about it, we both couldn't recall such a hustle job from any other Disney restaurant. It may not prevent us from going back to the restaurant, but it certainly won't be our first choice.

Truly strange experience? We had lunch (late) there last March just a few weeks after it had opened....food was great. Our server was new and a little inexperienced but didn't hassle us. That's the kind of thing that I would have taken up with someone (either back at the resort or at the restaurant prior to leaving). We have only had one really negetive encounter and that was at The Boardwalk. This was when DDP was first rolled out and my husband went to the bakery to grab some muffins and coffee at breakfast. The customer in front of him was on the dining plan and had 3 small kids. He was struggling to order and the cast members behind the counter treated him like dirt....450.00/night worth of dirt...my husband was ticked and complained to the concierge. We got a prompt response and they even sent a follow up letter confirming that they had looked into the situation. Fair enough...we alerted them to the problem so that they could correct it......sorry that you had a less than "magical" experience.
