On our AK day, we will be doing AK in AM then going to DTD later afternoon for shopping/etc. For our TS that day, I trying to decide if we should have TS lunch at Yak & Yeti or use our TS at DTD/Marketplace at Capn Jacks. Any recommendations as to which is better meal?

Having just eaten at Yak & Yeti Friday I would say go elsewhere for your TS.
Our appetizers were good and the dessert (wantons) were delicious but our entrées were very average. Our server provided the worst service of our entire trip, bad enough to speak to a manager on the way out. I would skip it.

Just my 2 cents.

That would be good advice if "elsewhere" weren't Captain Jacks!!! It's one of the very few places in WDW where I've never been and have no desire to go.

Y&Y is "ok" for lunch--clearly better than CJ.

The one time we went to Captain Jacks - which was, admittedly, YEARS ago - it was just OK, which is a shame, since it's such a pretty place. That's some prime real estate there that could be turned into a really special meal spot with some work in the kitchen.

Can't comment on Y&Y yet - ask me later in May. I'm just glad to have a sit-down spot in AK other than the Rainforest Cafe, which has its place.

Have you considered other Downtown Disney spots other than Capt. Jack's? And, if you're open to a little boat ride, I'd choose Olivia's at OKW in a nanosecond - it's not flashy, or an "event' kinda place, but it's a delightful lunch spot.

We did Y&Y TS lunch (Jan2009) - appy and dessert were good, entree was OK. Service was not good, rude, slow, unhelpful with menu choices. bathrooms were icky!
We also did CapN Jacks (same trip) for dinner- all food was good, and service was wonderful. The server really paid attention to my DD and her "specific" requests. The atmosphere was lacking, but if I had to pick one over the other I would pick Jacks - OMG did I say that! lol

I don't know about Capn Jack's but Y&Y was our WORST dining experience EVER in WDW. There was a piece of a latex glove in my food! Thank goodness we came out of there alive.

Well ... it's not sounding good for either of my choices! We are doing DDP so would like to do 1 TS that day. How about Planet Hollywood -- is that good? We had eaten at a PH, but it was years ago, so I don't really remember too much about it. I was originally planning either Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich CS at DTD for dinner, but can change TS to DTD if needed. Or, maybe I'm better off doing 2 TS on another day and using on CS for the AK / DTD day. Thanks for everyone's input!

I think both of your CS choices are spot-on. Planet Hollywood is not on the dining plan. I actually think the food is pretty good, but the service impressed me as sort of "attitudinal," if that makes sense.

I will say, too, that we purely LOVE Raglan Road. We've been there three times in as many years, and it's a real favorite, if for no other reason than Ger's Bread and Butter pudding. It's just the best dessert around.

Just remember, too, that reviews are really subjective. Maybe we just live a charmed life, but we've never, in a whole buncha WDW trips, EVER had an awful, or even sorta bad, TS dining experience. They've all been at least pretty good, and a couple of times, something special. The only really bad food experience I've had at WDW was at the ABC Commissary, and it was genuinely yucky. I was sorta disappointed in the old Concourse Steakhouse once, but it was New Year's Day and I was willing to cut them a little snack. Oh, and we had non-existant service at the Pepper Market once, but the manager made it right. Boy, did he ever!

We were at Capn Jacks in February - it was so-so - I would not recommend it. I haven't eaten at the other DTD restaurants but people like them.

There is another TS in AK , Tusker House is a buffet. Which I love because I feel you really get your money's worth at all you can eats'. If you're a food adverturer then you'll like Tusker's African flavored items. I sampled at least two things from each section and then went back for more of what I liked. Found all of the flavoring interesting, and I'm planing on going back again on my next trip. :cool1:
You may want to do a search for both restuarants because I have seen others that had good reports of Yak & Yeti. ;)

We just returned and ate our final TS meal at Yak and Yeti. DH and I thought it was delicious! My sister, BIL and nephew ate at Cap'n Jacks and thought it was so-so. They had eaten at Y&Y prior to our arrival and they also enjoyed their meal there.
