Yak and Yeti

Looking for comments from anyone who has eaten at Yak and Yeti. We are heading to WDW the 1st of January and would like some reviews before we leave.

We just ate lunch there on 12/12 and were very happy with it. We got an order of sweet and sour chicken with the brown rice and an order of beef & broccoli with jasmine rice and shared those. We would definitely go back and probably get the same things again.

I also recommend the Yak Attack drink.

We had lunch there the other day and it was fabulous! I had the Seared Miso Salmon for my entree and the Tuna appetizer - both were amazing! The Cream Cheese/Pineapple Won Ton Dessert is phenomenal too!

The Pho (and this is only my opinion because someone always comes along and says but it isn't REAL pho) is pho-nomenal. I don't think I'd ever try anything else because I couldn't stand not ordering that.

I have had the Big Bamboo (booze) and the Shanghai Express (slightly different booze) and they were both good for tropical fruity drinks.

We ate there last month. We started off with the lettuce cups and they were awesome!!! DH and I both had the steak and shrimp. It was VERY good. I had the Yak Attack and I don't really give it a great review, it wasn't my favorite drink. I'm pretty picky though. The service was good, the food came out fast, and was very very good. It was our favorite meal of our trip! We will defintely return. Oh, don't make the mistake of filling up during the main course. The fried wontons are to die for! So yummy!

The restaurant was great! We had lunch there twice(2 different trips)
Absolutely loved the lettuce cup and the fried green bean appetizers. You can't go wrong to start with these. Both times we went, I had the Miso Salmon with jasmine rice(so good) My DS ordered the steak and shrimp(his must have in Yak and Yeti) My DH tried the BB ribs(tender; your standard Baby Back but flavorful) For desserts, we had the fried wonton with pineapple(YUMMM), Mango Pie(a light sweet alternative) and sorbets.
Do try it at least once. But I would stay away from the Sweet and Sour chicken type of dishes(unlike those take-out food)

We ate there last Friday, Dec 19 and got a 3:15 ADR and asked to be seated by the window. We were able to watch the 3:45 parade as we had dessert and it was lovely. On the DDP (which is just way too much food, IMHO) My husband had the Ahi Tuna appetizer, I had the pot stickers (yummo), DS had the lettuce wraps and DD had the mussels (double yummo) We did Salmon, Steak and Shrimp, Mahi Mahi and Tamarind Chicken for entrees. I thought they were lovely and enjoyable and servins were large. We all had the pineapple wonton dessert and it was great.

My only oddity was the server and the check presentation. Normally on the DDP they would bring a check that showed what the total would be the reccomeneded gratuity for 18% and 20%. My DD is a server so I always tip well but he brought me a total for the bill and an adding machine tape showing me what I was paying per day for DDP (Trust me, I already knew this) He made a point of showing me our meal cost exceeded what we'd already paid for the upgrade to deluxe dining plan for the day. I tipped appropriately but thought that was just a little pushy. However Yak and Yeti doesn't seem busy and I'd imagine the servers there are having to stress it's a table service but it was a bit forwad.

One funny note, DH had heard me planning the trip over and over but never read the guide books and we sat down and he said "The really need to rework the marketing on the name of this place. I looked confused and he sincerely said to me, "The idea of a Yacking Yetti doesen't sound appealing at all. Once we sat down and I saw the menu and read the name I realized it was Yak and Yeti. All along I thought you had wanted to eat at a place called "Yakkin' Yeti"

We just ate there last week. I had the steak and shrimp, it was great. My wife had the duck, it was only OK, we are big duck fans, so I might be being a bit harsh on that.

Others in my family had a few other dishes, beef and broccoli, the seared salmon, the maple chicken, all good. the only real misses I think were the 2 kids meals. One had the egg roll and would only eat it after getting some duck sauce to dip it in. The other had the lo mein and didn't really eat any of it.

the wonton desert is delicious, I think it was the best desert of our trip, though others in my family didn't like it. The mango pie is also very good.

BTW: we had excellent service.

I was very disappointed with my meal (with the exception of the fried won-ton dessert which was great!) and wouldn't eat there again.

I had some type of fried shrimp on a stick and it was so greasy it was almost inedible. My husband enjoyed his entree, though I forget what he ordered.

I am in the minority here so maybe it was just an off-day in the kitchen.

Things we give thumbs up to are!
Wok fired green beans (sauce is to die for)
Duck (I have been craving this)
Pho (delicious and fresh dish, loaded with shrimp)
Cream cheese wontons (yum)
Bloody Mary (best I have had in a long time)

I almost forgot about this. Our server asked in advance if we were on the dining plan and then wanted to see our KTTW card to verify. When he brought out our bill, it was just the zero'd out version rather than the original one with the prices and tip suggestions and he mentioned that their system was weird and only printed that way for the dining plan. I really hadn't paid much attention to the cost of what I'd ordered so I had no idea what amount to tip since there was nothing to go by. I hope I tipped OK, but if not, it's their own fault! I just tipped the same I had at other restaurants that I thought were the same general amount.

One of our favorite places to eat in the "World". The food has always been fresh, hot and just down right yummy!
And as some of the others have suggested....If you like a frozen adult beverage....Get the Yak Attack....It is awesome!!

Ate there for dinner a few weeks ago. Don't think I'd go back, didn't like the food, atmosphere, or service, though I know all the problems I had could be completely reversed on another visit, I just wouldn't want to give the place another shot after a sour experience this time. I had the tempura shrimp, which was mushy and bland, as were the veggies. The only thing I did like was the coconut ginger rice served with it. We were seated in a small room on the second floor and it was stiflingly hot (on a cool december day!) and incredibly noisy. Our server was far from personable, forgetful, and rushed to the point of rudeness. My tap water (which is normally all I drink) had a strong, foul chlorine taste so strong you could SMELL it; I took one sip and then asked for a soda instead. Bad water isn't the fault of the server or restaurant, but it was just one more thing that added to an overall negative experience.

One funny thing; I'd wanted to try the famed cheese wonton desert, but also really wanted to get out of there, so I ordered it to go. Without, of course, the ice cream that comes with it, as I stressed to the server. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I got the box I checked and there was a scoop of ice cream inside which I had to remove. I found that kind of hilarious! The whole desert really wasn't meant to travel and I should have eaten it fresh right there, I know, but it would have been even worse if I'd waited until the bus ride home to notice the melted ice cream leaking out all over!

It's "ok". We like to just sit at the bar and have a couple of appetizers and drinks. They have a pretty good beer selection. Our one full lunch there was unremarkable.

We had dinner at Yak and Yeti and it was amazing!! Great service and food. I had the sweet and sour chicken, good portion size too. Then we had the brownie ice cream afterwards which was really good. Definitely give it a try, its so good.

We ate at the counter service today.

Both of ours were "okay" at best. I can't say I would make an effort to go there again. Although I would be willing to try the sit down at least.

DH had the Kung Pao Beef. I had the Mandarin Chicken Salad.
Chick Filet has better salads than what I had. It was fine. Not horrible. Not worth mentioning.
DH said he found 1.5 peanuts in his meal. I don't know if that was an accident, or the norm. It was mostly rice. And not much of it really.

As someone mentioned the highlight of the meal was the Mango Mini Pie. Now THAT is worth going back for.
So for a quick beverage and snack, I would return there.

Our tab came to approx $26. That meal was not worth that $.

Just thought I would respond to these paticular complaints since I know about them first hand.

The server was not trying to be pushy when it came to bringing you the adding machine tape to show you the amount of the bill. The Yak and Yeti is one of, if not the only restaurant at WDW that does things a different way than the other WDW restaurants.

They would love nothing more than to be able to give you the same type of receipts that the rest of the restaurants give you because it causes less confusion all around for everyone involved. The only paperwork they can bring you is the zeroed out DDP, because thats all that prints out.

Also, they werent asking to get your card up front to verify that you were on the plan, but they try to run the cards early on so you arent left waiting 10-15 minutes after your meal is over to be able to run the payment. The Disney MATRA systems are linked to the internet and thus can run quite slow...add into the fact that for just 1 family on the dining plan, it can take well over 4 seperate long transactions to process your card...multiply that times 10 servers for 2 machines...times 3 tables per server....and it could take an eternity to process. Them taking your card early when you sit down is a blessing in disguise, the guests just dont realize it though

We ate there in September for the first time and it was our second favorite meal (only after LeCellier) of the trip. Here is what we ate:

(Sweet and Sour pork--I loved it--and I normally don't eat this type of food)

(DH had the duck and loved it)

(our friends each had the shrimp and steak--I tasted the steak--it was outstanding)

The portions were huge and we could not even eat dessert so we had it boxed. One was the Chocolate Brownie with ice cream (yes, the brownie had nuts) and I believe the ohter was a mango pie--DH loved them both.

Service was outstanding and we got some pixie dust while there as we were celebrating a 25th anniversary, birthday and a first time visit.
