Yak and Yeti -- extremely rude server

Ok, so we got back from an AMAZING vaca on Wednesday and ate fabulous food all over the world (even got engaged at California Grill) but I've got to complain about my server at the Yak and Yeti.

We got there, four adults and an 18 month old, and the hostess couldn't be more accomodating. She got the highchair out, gave him the childs menu to play with etc. Then our server showed up (I might have his name on the receipt -- I am going through them all today). He was EXTREMELY rude and actually gave an annoyed look when he saw the baby there. The baby was very good by the way, just scribbling or playing with his car. The minute he acted up, his mom took him outside.

This server kept calling him "the kid" in a very condescending way -- like "what does 'the kid' want" or "who's got 'the kid' on their plan" I so wanted to explode on him.

Obviously, not every server is going to be all cute and warm with the children but this guy really seemed annoyed that there was a child in WDW. HELLO!!

Just wondering if anyone else had the same experience over there?

Was your server not American? I would imagine at Yak and Yeti maybe not. Could this reference to "the kid" just been a simple translation problem?

Be happy the server acknowledged your child. I love my mother-in-law but she has this habit of calling me "she" when I'm in the room. She very rarely calls me by my name. Of course, this is the woman who was referred to as "idiot" by her mother-in-law. I'll take "she".

Anyway, I don't see this as a big deal.

I guess -- I just thought I'd share to see if anyone else had the same experience.

That would make me feel very bad. I hate when servers are so judgemental. Hopefully, that is not a characteristic of all Yak and Yeti servers, and only one without very good social skills.

Congratulations on your engagement! :goodvibes

That stinks that he was so rude...but how was the food?

What a shame you had a bad experience. I must admit, I agree with a PP though - it could have been a language barrier thing :confused3

Sounds as though you had some pretty good experiences all round, though.

At first we thought it was a language barrier but his body language was just the same way. Oh well -- not everyone can be friendly all the time.

As for the food, I personally didn't care for it. I love Asian/Chinese food however so I am very pickey. My honey chicken was dry, and my friends shrimp tempura was not tempura (at least in my opinion). it was more like battered shrimp. I eat tempura all the time and when I have it it's very flakey and light. This was very heavy.

The fried string beans (or whatever they were called) were delicious though. I think I ate half my fiance's plate.

I agree with the poster who said "guess you had to be there". I don't see the issue at all. :confused3

I was expecting to read a story like the one I read about the Raglan Road a couple months ago. :sad2:

One of the times I have eaten at Y&Y I had problems with the server tending to ignore me and pay much more attention to the people at tables where there was more than one Guest. Also, every single recommendation he made to me from the menu happened to be the most expensive item in that category.

Not only was this lack of attention and attitude reflected in the tip I left, but since the tip (in this rare instance) was under 10% on the way out I asked to speak to a manager. I explained that I had left a low tip and gave about six or seven reasons why I had done so.

Any time I get service which is either so poor or so outstanding that I tip outside of my normal range I will seek out a manager to explain that I left either a very large or very small tip and why. I think it is part of my "responsibility" to be a good customer.
